Translate Poetry
In this assignment, I will translate a poem entitled "AKU" by Chairul Anwar
Sumber Source Language Target Language
Aku Me
Kalau sampai waktuku When my time comes
Ku mau tak seorang kan merayu I don’t anyone coaxing
Tidak juga kau Not even you
Tak perlu sedu sedan itu The crying’s not needed
Aku ini binatang jalang I’m wild beast
Dari kumpulannya terbuang be outcast from the herd
Biar peluru menembus kulitku Let the bullets pierce my skin
Aku tetap meradang menerjang But I'mll keep still charginge, aflame
Luka dan bisa ku bawa berlari Wounds and poison I’ll take running
Berlari Running
Hingga hilang pedih hari Until the pain is gone
Dan aku akan kebih tidak peduli And, I don't even care
Aku mau hidup seribu tahun lagi I want to live another thousand years

Indonesia:
Mata Hitam
Karya: WS Rendra
Dua mata hitam adalah matahari yang biru
dua mata hitam sangat kenal bahasa rindu.
Rindu bukanlah milik perempuan melulu
dan keduanya sama tahu, dan keduanya tanpa malu.
Dua mata hitam terbenam di daging yang wangi
kecantikan tanpa sutra, tanpa pelangi.
Dua mata hitam adalah rumah yang temaram
secangkir kopi sore hari dan kenangan yang terpendam

English:
Black Eyes
By: WS Rendra
Two black eyes is a blue sun
two black eyes really know the language of longing.
Longing doesn't only belong to women
and both know well, and both are shameless.
Two black eyes immersed in the fragrant flesh
beauty without silk, without rainbow.
Two black eyes is a dim house
The afternoon cup of coffee and burried memories

Inggris:
“When I Have Fears That I May Cease to Be,”
John Keats
"And when I feel, fair creature of an hour!
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love — then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till Love and Fame to nothingness do sink."

Indonesia:
"Ketika Saya Memiliki Ketakutan Bahwa Saya Mungkin Berhenti,"
John Keats
"Dan ketika saya merasa, makhluk yang adil dari satu jam!
Bahwa aku tidak akan pernah melihatmu lagi,
Tidak pernah menikmati kekuatan peri ini
Tentang cinta yang tak terpantulkan — lalu di pinggir pantai
Dari dunia luas aku berdiri sendiri, lalu berfikir
Sampai Cinta dan Ketenaran menjadi ketiadaan lalu tenggelam."

Indonesia - English translation

Terlelap lalu terbangun dengan pengar
Rebah hanya sekedar rutinitas
Beranjak keluar berbaur hingar bingar
Jas berdasi menatap layar jadi identitas

Dozing and rouse for an agony
Recline are completely habitual
Shifting, mingle for an irony
Suit tie on become a self-conceptual

English - Indonesia translation

I've been drowning
Falling to the place that is frightening
I've been thinking i found myself saddening
Never knew, I found it in the depths that myself stunning

Aku pernah tenggelam
Jatuh menuju tempat kelam
Kukira diriku kan terluka dalam
Tak kusangka kutemukan diriku layaknya nilam

Why translate literary work?
1. To be a literary translator
2. To be a writer
3. To be a better reader of literary works
4. Translation for pleasure

Note: In translating a literary work into language, it does not necessarily translate it
immediately, furthermore, we must consider how the reader can both get a reading experience

that is in accordance with the original work. This means that the translator must look at aspects
of language, social, etc. Meaning that are in accordance with the understanding of the readers
so that the text are more meaningful.

The literary aspect

For the speeding reader, paragraphs become a country the eye flies over looking for landmarks,
reference points, airports, restrooms, passages of sex.

The speeding reader guts a book the way the skillful clean fish. The gills are gone, the tail, the
scales, the fins, then the fillet slides away swiftly as though fed to a seal, and only the slow
reader, one whom those with green teeth chew through like furious worms: only the reader
whose finger falters in front of long words, who moves the lips, who dances the text, will notice
the odd crowd of images -flier, butcher, seal - which have gathered to comment on the aims
and activities of the speeding reader, perhaps like gossips at a wedding.

To the speeding reader, this jostle of images, this crazy: collision of ideas - of landing strip,
kernel, heart, guts, sex - will not be felt or even recognized, because these readers are after
what they regard as the inner core of meaning: itis the gist they want, the heart of the matter:
they want what can egually well be said in their own, other, and always fewer words: so that
the gist of this passage could be said to be: readers who read rapidIy read only for the most
generalized and stereotyped significances."

[In reading the sentence above, the reader tends to focus on how to finish and read quickly
without paying attention to the meaning and meaning of the topic of conversation above.
Readers tend to understand meaning only after they have finished reading]

ST TT
This evening, the sturdy Levi's
I wore every day for over a year
& which seemed to the end
in perfect condition,
suddenly tore.
How or why I don't know,
but there it was: a big rip at the crotch.
A month ago my friend Nick
walked off a racquetball court,
showered,
got into his street clothes,
& halfway home collapsed & died.
Take heed, you who read this,
& drop to your knees now & again
like the poet Christopher Smart,
& kiss the earth & be joyful,
& make much of your time,
& be kindly to everyone,
even to those who do not deserve it.
For although you may not believe
it will happen,
you too will one day be gone,
I, whose Levi's ripped at the crotch
for no reason,
assure you that such is the case.
Pass it on.

Pada pagi ini, jeans Levi’s kebanggaanku yang
selalu aku pakai setiap hari dalam kurun waktu
lebih dari setahun dan yang sepertinya
Nampak baik-baik saja [to the end], tetiba saja
robek.
Bagaimana atau apa alasannya aku pun tidak
tahu menahu,
Tapi di sana ada robekan besar di bagian
selangkangan.
Satu bulan lalu, temanku Nick pergi ke
lapangan bulu tangkis,
Mandi,
Dan memakai pakaiannya,
Dan dalam setengah perjalanan pulang lalu
kolaps dan mati.
Berhati-hatilah, untukmu yang membaca ini,
Dan berlututlah dan lagi seperti penyair
Christopher Smart,
Dan mencumbu bumi dan bergembiralah,
Dan manfaatkanlah waktumu,
Dan jadilah baik ke semua orang,
Bahkan kepada mereka yang tidak pantas
mendapatkannya.
Mungkin kamu tidak percaya akan hal yang
akan datang itu,
Suatu hari nanti kamu juga akan pergi,
Aku, yang jeans Levi’snya sobek di
selangkangan tanpa alasan,
Memberitahu kalian bahwa begitulah
ceritanya.
Lanjutkanlah pesan ini.

Build Love

When meeting you, don't know why this heart becomes restless
A Heart that is tightly closed and in the end it opens
There is a problem what heart, tell me why you are becoming nervous
Are you in love ask thoughts

Oh no this heart has found its couple
It's not about falling in love it's waking up in love
When two hearts have met why don't we become a couple
Don't you think of falling in love but let's build love

Don't be like water and oil don't stir
Do not be like fire and water that are not united who are always emotional
Be like a pair of shoes that are always together
That's why our love can be built with two hearts that are never emotional

Bangun Cinta

Saat bertemu denganmu, entah kenapa hati ini menjadi resah
Hati yang tertutup rapat dan akhirnya terbuka
Ada masalah apa hati, katakan padaku mengapa kamu menjadi gugup
Apakah kamu sedang jatuh cinta, tanyakan pikiran

Aku
Wanita yang penuh dosa
Yang berharap Kau mau menunjukkan
Kuasa-Mu itu untuk ku

Or is it Can the steering wheel that can lead me to the right path?

God... Is there someone you’ve prepared for me
To jointly support share this burden that I carry
So that I want to share my sadness

A. 1. Poem Indonesia translate to English

Kata adalah nada dan cara paling sederhana untuk mencapaimu

Lewat sebuah senja di langitku yang hangat

Kulihat awan menembus senyummu

Yang lebam di ingatanku

Di puisi ini, akan kau temukan air mata

Dan senyuman dalam satu kaca

Jika suatu hari puisi ku hilang

Temukan aku dalam suara hening yang bisa kau dengar

Layaknya sebuah kebahagiaan dan kepingan kenangan

Aku akan menyimpanmu di tempat terbaik dalam hatiku

Karenanya aku tidak perlu tanda titik untuk mencintaimu

Bagiku kau seperti Selaparang, kota tua yang tak mati-mati
words are the tone and the simplest way to reach you

through a twilight in my warm sky

I see the clouds pierce you your smile

That is bruised in my memory

In this poem, you will find tears

And smiles in one glass

In If one day my poetry is lost

Find me in the silent voice you can hear

Like happiness and memories

I will keep you in the best place in my heart

So, I don’t need a dot to love you

To me, you are like Selaparang, an old city that doesn’t die

2. Poem English translate to Indonesia

I never knew about happiness.

I didn’t think dreams came true.

I couldn’t really believe in love.

Until I finally with you.

Aku tidak pernah tau tentang kebahagiaan.

Aku tidak pernah berpikir mimpi akan terkabul.

Aku tidak benar-benar percaya akan cinta.

Sampai akhirnya aku bertemu denganmu.

My First Love

When I first met you
I feel it for you
This is very delightfu
But it is impossible for me to love you

Because your attitude is as cool as the ice
It hit me…
The lantern of hope has begin, Its impossible for me
This time I fell in love

Who is wrong here
For you who I admire
Actually I don’t want to hope with you
But your sweet smile make me like you
Although in silence I was waiting for you.

Cinta pertama saya

Saat pertama kali bertemu denganmu
Aku merasakannya untukmu
Ini sangat menyenangkan
Tapi tidak mungkin bagiku untuk mencintaimu

Karena sikapmu sedingin es
Itu memukul saya…
Lentera harapan telah dimulai, Tidak mungkin bagiku
Kali ini aku jatuh cinta

siapa yang salah disini?
Untukmu yang aku kagumi
Sebenarnya aku tidak ingin berharap denganmu
Tapi senyum manismu membuatku menyukaimu, Meski dalam diam aku menunggumu.

Dead
Whether you feel scared or relieved
Heard that death was coming any minute
The arrival of death is like
The clock that doesn't work anymore

Sometimes people are afraid to die
Because they are not ready to lose
Which is called worldly pleasure
Or afraid to feel pain

Sometimes people are happy too
That death is coming any minute
Because you don't feel pain anymore

Death is a word
Which refers to from the end
Commented [DA1]: Whose poem is this? What do you
like most about it?

Of the word and finished
That's how they feel and think about dead

Kematian

Commented [DA2]: How about “Entah”?
Commented [DA3]: How about “Datangnya”?
Commented [DA4]: Why did you change it into its

Commented [DA5]: Try translating a rhymed poem and
preserving the rhyme. Just for exercise.

POEM : English – Bahasa
English :
A Tear And A Smile
I would not exchange the sorrows of my heart
For the joys of the multitude.
And I would not have the tears that sadness makes
To flow from my every part turn into laughter.

I would that my life remain a tear and a smile.

A tear to purify my heart and give me understanding
Of life's secrets and hidden things.
A smile to draw me nigh to the sons of my kind and
To be a symbol of my glorification of the gods.

A tear to unite me with those of broken heart;
A smile to be a sign of my joy in existence.

I would rather that I died in yearning and longing than that I live weary and despairing.

I want the hunger for love and beauty to be in the
Depths of my spirit, for I have seen those who are
Satisfied the most wretched of people.
I have heard the sigh of those in yearning and longing, and it is sweeter than the sweetest melody.

With evening's coming the flower folds her petals
And sleeps, embracing her longing.
At morning's approach she opens her lips to meet
The sun's kiss.

The life of a flower is longing and fulfilment.
A tear and a smile.

The waters of the sea become vapor and rise and come
Together and are a cloud.

And the cloud floats above the hills and valleys
Until it meets the gentle breeze, then falls weeping
To the fields and joins with brooks and rivers to return to the sea, its home.

Commented [DA1]: What do you like most about it?

The life of clouds is a parting and a meeting.
A tear and a smile.

And so does the spirit become separated from
The greater spirit to move in the world of matter
And pass as a cloud over the mountain of sorrow
And the plains of joy to meet the breeze of death
And return whence it came.

To the ocean of Love and Beauty----to God.

Khalil Gibran

Air Mata dan Senyuman

Saya tidak akan menukar kesedihan hati saya
Demi kebahagiaan orang banyak.

Air mata untuk menyatukan saya dengan mereka yang patah hati;

Sampai bertemu angin sepoi-sepoi, lalu jatuh menangis

Khalil Gibran

PUISI : Bahasa – English
Bahasa :
Sarjana

Bu, yang aku takutkan
Ladang-ladang yang kau gadaikan
Ditukar sia-sia oleh gelar sarjana ini
Tahun-tahun tak pernah benar-benar ku isi

Beras pinjamanmu itu kujadikan racun
Membakar tubuhku sendiri
Lalai akan janji lalai akan mimpi

Orang-orang pintar sudah terlalu banyak
Yang merasa lebih pintar lebih banyak lagi

Aku memilih jalan menulis puisi
Kukira ini bisa membeli nasi
Dan sebuah pulau
Serta alat pencakau risau

Bu, jika aku tidak bekerja di kantor berita
Doakanlah aku terhindar dari penyebar dilema
Biar nasi yang kumakan ini, sarjana yang kupegang ini
Tidak benar-benar membuatku seperti
Orang-orang yang hidup namun tak berarti
Doakan aku tidak menggigiti kulit di tubuhku sendiri

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind

Dimana Trotoar Berakhir oleh Shel Silverstein
Ada tempat di mana trotoar berakhir
Dan sebelum jalan dimulai,
Dan di sana rerumputan tumbuh lembut dan putih,
Dan di sana matahari membakar merah terang,
Dan di sana burung bulan beristirahat dari penerbangannya
Untuk mendinginkan dalam angin pepermin

1. From the results of yesterday's presentation of the material. I got several points. Before
discussing it more broadly, let's talk about literature.Literature is a written text that
contains written works of an author that can be used as a reference and guide for readers.
One form of literary work is poetry. There are several aspects that need to be considered
by translators when interpreting a poem. The following aspects can be used as a reference
for interpreting a poem.
a. The linguistic Aspect .It looks like a conversion of a gripe, into a text in another
language without loss of meaning and preserving equivalence. The task of
linguistic theory is to build a translation process, in the sense of converting the
text in one language into text on the other. This can be seen from the structure of
the language.
b. The culture aspect.
In addition, there are several tools that can be used for translators. This tool can
also make it easier for them to translate according to their respective needs.there are
several tools that we can use when translating such as monolingual dictionaries, Bilingual
Dictionaries, search engine (Google ), Theasaures in TL, Bilingual Idiom dictionary,
Rhytme dictionary in the TL, spell checker fOR the TL. Besides that, there are also
several benefits that we can feel when we try to translate both from the translator and the
reader. One of the performances of this literay translation is for the writers themselves.
Besides they need a lot of reading as a reference, he also has to reproduce knowledge to
improvise their knowledge related to Literay Translation. Not only that, Literay
Translation is also very impactful for readers, namely conveying information or
providing them with current information.
2. Still I Rise - Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?

Why are you beset with gloom?
’ Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Artinya
Aku Tetap bangkit
Kamu boleh menulis namaku dalam sejarah
Dengan kebohonganmu yang pahit dan terpelintir,
Kau mungkin menginjakku di tanah yang sangat kotor
Tapi tetap saja, seperti debu, aku akan bangkit.
Apakah kelancanganku membuatmu kesal?
Mengapa Kau dilanda kesuraman?
Karena aku berjalan seperti aku punya sumur minyak
Memompa di ruang tamuku.

This is my grief. That land,
My home, I have never seen;
No traveller tells of it,
However far he has been.

And could I discover it,
I fear my happiness there,
Or my pain, might be dreams of return
Here, to these things that were.

The meaning
Commented [DA1]: How about “omong kosongmu”?
Commented [DA2]: How about “bisa saja menindasku di
antara sol sepatu dan tanah berlumpur”?
Commented [DA3]: How about “dilingkupi” atau
“diselimuti”?
Commented [DA4]: How about adapting it to “tambang
emas”?

“Memompa” becomes “berbongkah-bongkah”

Ini adalah kesedihanku. Tanah itu
Rumah saya, yang saya belum pernah saya melihat.
Tidak ada terveller yang menceritakannya
Sejauh apapun dDia mengembara.
Dan bisakah saya menemukannya?
Saya takut khawatir akan kebahagiaan saya ada di sana.
Atau rasa sakitku, mungkin mimpi untuk kembali
Ke tanah ini, Untuk hal itu.

Commented [DA5]: Why do you switch from “ku” to
“saya”?

Pull Your Troubles
By Barbara Vance

At night before you sleep, my dears,
You must reach deep inside
And pull your troubles out your ears
Wherein they like to hide.

A trouble is the kind of thing,
It’s very often true,
That bothers you more than the soul
Who passed it on to you.

Literal Translation:
Tarik Masalah Mu
Di malam hari sebelum kau tidur, sayang ku sayangku,
Kau harus meraih jauh ke dalam
Dan menarik masalah mumasalahmu keluar ke luar telinga mu
Dimana Tempat mereka suka untuk bersembunyi

Sebuah masalah adalah jenis hal
Ini sangat sering benar
Itu menganggu mu lebih dari jiwa
Siapa meninggalkan itu di atas untuk mu

Liberal Translation:
Hempaskanlah Semua Masalahmu
Ketika malam sebelum kau tertidur, sayangku.
Capai jauh secara mendalam
Dan hempaskanlah semua masalahmu
Ketika orang-orang suka menyembunyikannya

Masalah semacam itu
Sangat sering terjadi
Yang menganggumu melebihi jiwa
Orang-orang yang membuat mu bedarada berada dalam masalah.

Love-Hate
By: Nikita Gill

I don’t hate you, I love you.
But loving you is killing me.
So this is goodbye
even if I don’t want to be.

Literal Translation:
Cinta-Benci
Aku tidak membencimu, aku mencintaimu.
Tapi, mencintaimu adalah membunuhku.
Jadi ini adalah selamat tinggal
Bahkan jika aku tidak menginginkanya.

Liberal Translation:
Cinta dan Benci
Aku mencintaimu bukan membecimu.
Tetapi cinta ini membunuhku.
Saatnya kita harus berpisahanberpisah
meskipun aku tidak menginginkan ini terjadi.

The Summary of last week’s meeting
We talked about the terminologies about ST and TT (TSu and TSa in bahasa), SL and TL
(BSa and BSu in bahasa). Direct translation which is the translator knows and understand the
language used and translate it from one language to another. Meanwhile indirect translation is
the translation does not translate directly from the original text. Sight translation is translate only
by reading past of the text. And, translationese is translation language or unnatural translation.
We also talked abou why translate literary works, because some people want to be
literary translator, to be a writer, to be a better reader of literary works, and to be translation for
pleasure it means some people will itch to translate. The tools of a literary translator such as;
monolingual dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries, search engine, spell checker for the TL,
thesaurus in TL, bilingual idiom dictionary, and rhyme dictionary in the TL.
And last but not least we talked about the literal and liberal approach which is literal
translation is the rendering of a text from one language to another one word at a time without
considering the meaning of the text as a whole. And liberal translation is translating of a text in
such a way that it reproduces the general meaning of the original text without considering word
to word meaning.

My earth is old

His cries are inaudible but heartbreaking
Humans who are aware of signs but still ignore
The feeling of disappointment that is very slashing because of being injured in the sharp blade of a
machete
my earth still provides its resources for living

His stomach is behind for the benefit of humans
Abundant resources just give it away
The wood that used to be abundant
Now I can't even find a big tree in the city way

Disaster is a sign of extreme disappointment
The hot lava that comes out of his stop becomes his wrath
Humans are still oblivious to the warning
As if he didn't pay attention to his natural warning

The peak of his anger destroys everything around
Remind the people of their mistakes
My earth is no longer able to bear its burden alone
My earth tells its problems through nature's cries

Bumiku menceritakan masalahnya lewat tangisan alam

Title
Deep into that darkness peering,
Long I stood there, wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals
Ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken,
And the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken
Was the whispered word, "Lenore!"
This I whispered, and an echo
Murmured back the word, "Lenore!"
Merely this, and nothing more.

Looking back up from my pen
I sometimes don’t know what to do
Should I stand up and try again
Falling back down, it be the end for you
As they say a’thousand words that insult my desire

People keep saying my dreams are just,
Just some feeble hallucination
My ideas to words, is a mist
I get up, concentrate, and thabk my dedication
As I stand bak up again and feed my starving fire

Ignore the voices that surround me
Let my hand and pen do all the work
My imagination are all free
I finish there, where my signature lurks
As my dreams as an author, is to inspire

Melihat kembali dari pena saya

Haruskah saya berdiri dan mencoba lagi?
Jatuh kembali, itu menjadi akhir untukmu
Saat mereka mengucapkan ribuan kata yang menghina keinginanku

Orang-orang terus mengatakan mimpiku adil,
Hanya halusinasi lemah
Ide-ide saya untuk kata-kata, adalah kabut
Saya bangun, berkonsentrasi, dan menghargai dedikasi saya
Saat saya berdiri lagi dan memberi makan api kelaparan saya

Abaikan suara-suara yang mengelilingi saya
Biarkan tangan dan pena saya melakukan semua pekerjaan
Imajinasi saya semua bebas
Saya selesai di sana, di mana tanda tangan saya bersembunyi
Seperti impian saya sebagai penulis, adalah untuk menginspirasi

Meeting report summary
Presenter: Dirga

When translating a literary work into a language, it is not always necessary to translate it
immediately; also, we must examine how the reader can both have a reading experience that is
consistent with the original work. This means that the translator must consider linguistic, social, and
other factors. Meanings that are consistent with the readers' comprehension to make the text more
meaningful.
Paragraphs become a country that the reader's eye flies over looking for landmarks, reference
points, airports, bathrooms, and sex passages.
The quick reader devours a book like a skilled fish cleaner. The gills are gone, the tail, the scales, the
fins, then the fillet slides away swiftly as if fed to a seal, and only the slow reader, one whom those
with green teeth chew through like furious worms: only the reader whose finger falters in front of
long words, who moves the lips, who dances the text, will notice the strange crowd of images - flier,
butcher, seal - which have gathered to comment on the aims and activities of the speeding reader,
perhaps like gossips at a wedding.
This jostling of pictures, this crazy: collision of concepts - of landing strip, kernel, heart, guts, sex -
will not be felt or even recognized by the fast reader, because these readers are looking for the inner
core of meaning: the essence, the heart of the matter:
They seek what can be communicated in their own, other, and always less words: hence the
meaning of this text may be stated as follows: readers who read quickly read only for the most part
broad and conventional meanings."

Aroma Maut
The Aroma of Death

Karya Hamid Jabbar
By Hamid Jabbar

Berapakah jarak antara hidup dan mati, sayangku?
How far is the distance between life and diedeath, my dear?
Barangkali satu denyut lepas, o satu denyut lepas
Perhaps one beat free, oh one beat free
tepat di saat tak jelas batas-batas, sayangku:
Precise in the moment do not clear of the limits, my dear:
Segalanya terhempas, o segalanya terhempas!
Everything is down, oh everything is down!

(Laut masih berombak, gelombangnya entah ke mana.
The sea is still undulating, the wave don't know where is it go.
Angin masih berhembus, topannya entah ke mana.
The wind is still blowing, the typhoon don't know where is it go.
Bumi masih beredar, getarnya sampai ke mana?
The earth still revolves, where is till the tremble?
Semesta masih belantara, sunyi sendiri ke mana?
The whole still maze, where is the quite of alone?

Commented [DA1]: How about “A heartbeat away?”
Commented [DA2]: It’s translationese!
Commented [DA3]: How about “The waves go I know not
where”
Commented [DA4]: Translationese.

Berapakah jarak antara hidup dan mati, sayangku?
How far the distance between life and die, my dear?
Barangkali hilir-mudik di suatu titik
Perhaps in a point of steer
Tumpang-tindih merintih dalam satu nadi, sayangku:
Overlap of groan in one pulse, my dear:
Sampai tetes-embun pun selesai, tak menitik!
Even, until each drop of dew was over, not drip!

(Gelombang lain datang begitu lain.
Another wave come so mystifying.
Topan lain datang begitu lain.
Another typhoon come so astounding.
Gelap lain datang begitu lain.
Another black come so baffling.
Sunyi lain begitu datang sendiri tak bisa lain!
Another quite come alone and can't to be perplexing.

Farewell My Love
Selamat Jalan Cintaku

By Joanna Fuchs
Karya Joanna Fuchs

Is it really true our love is over now?
Apakah sungguh benar cinta kita berakhir sekarang?
Can it be time for us to say goodbye?
Dapatkah waktu untuk kita mengatakan selamat tinggal?
Too soon, it's much too soon, my love, for me;
Terlalu segera, terlalu cepat, cintaku, untukku;
You smile with ease, but I can only sigh.
Kamu tersenyum dengan tenang, tapi aku hanya dapat mengehela nafas napas keluh.

We've shared our lives and given so much love;
Kita telah membagikan kehidupan kita dan memberikan sangat banyak cinta;
I can't believe we're really going to part;
Aku tidak dapat percaya kita sungguh-sungguh terpecah belah;
You're moving toward a new life without me;
Kamu berpindah ke arah hidup baru tanpaku;
I'm left with scars upon my broken heart.
Aku ditinggalkan dengan bekas luka di atas hancurnya hatiku.

Commented [DA5]: Translationese

How about “Benarkah cinta kita berakhir sekarang?”
Commented [DA6]: Translationese

How about “Inikah saatnya kita mengucapkan selamat
tinggal?”
Commented [DA7]: Why do you switch from segera to
cepat?
Commented [DA8]: How about “enteng”

Go on now, if you must; I'll get along;
Pergilah sekarang, jika kamu harus; aku akan mendapatkannya;
How much it hurts, I don't want you to know.
Betapa banyak sakit ini, aku tidak ingin kamu mengetahuinya.
I'll set you free without inducing guilt,
Aku akan membiarkanmu bebas tanpa terpengaruh kesalahan,
But as you leave, the silent tears will flow.
Tapi seperti kamu pergi, keheningan air mataku akan mengalir.

I can't be mad; I love you way too much;
Aku tidak dapat marah; aku mencintaimu dengan sangat;
I'll hide my sadness now, so you can't tell.
Aku akan menyembunyikan kesedihanku sekarang, jadi kamu tidak dapat cerita.
Sweet happiness is what I wish for you;
Manisnya kebahagiaan adalah apa yang aku inginkan untukmu;
Farewell my love, I hope that you fare well.
Selamat jalan cintaku, aku harap kamu pergi dengan baik.

Tapi, menyapamu saja aku tak mampu

Even the wind is silent
When I complain about anything related to you

Missing who I used to be

*Malam Rindu
Malam minggu, hatiku ketar – ketir
Ku tak tahu apakah demokrasi dapat
Mengantarkan ku
Kepelukanmu dengan cara saksama
Dan dalam tempo sesingkat – singkatnya .

-Joko Pinurbo

*The silence of the night
Sunday night my heart feels nervous,
I dont know if I have the strength to take me into
Your arms in the right way,
And in the shortest time.

you tried looking for the commonly accepted translation?
Commented [DA2]: How about “A Night of Longing”

Commented [DA5]: Why did you change democracy to I?

*Stiil I rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twitsted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise

-maya Angelou

Kau bisa menuliskan tentang ku dalam sejarah mu
Dengan kebohongan mu yang pahit dan penuh kejanggalan,
Bahkan kamu bisa menginjakku di tanah yang sangat kotor
Tapi kau tahu , aku tetap saja seperti debu, dan akan bangkit.
