3. What is local history Local history generally describe as ‘a range of historical writings focusing on specific, geographically small areas like village, town or district, frequently produced by non-professional historian.

4. DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL HISTORY Local histories were written in the 18 th and early 19 th centuries by the local elites. Impact of industrialization and urbanization resulted in a desire among the local educated people to record their history at local and regional level. Late 19 th centuries was a particularly good period.

5. Some of the books which revolutionized the writing of local history . Establishment of the university department of local history . Two important historians were H. P. R Finberg and W . G . Hoskin , they both opposed the elitist conservative approach. Methodologically, they objected to the antiquarian, fact collecting tradition, the lack of order and method.
