THE SECRET!THE SECRET!

THE SECRET TO LIVING A
QUALITY LIFE!
•To every feat, there is a secret.
•In successful business, there is a secret
•In a quality marriage, there is a secret
•There can be no success if there is no
know how.
•Quality Christian life calls for a know how.
•New Life in Christ is a quality life.
•In healing there is a secret

“IMITATE HIS PRAYER
LIFE!”
WHAT WAS JESUS’ SECRET OF
SUCCESS?
DEPENDENCE ON FATHER
JOHN 5: 19, 30

THE DISCIPLES’ REQUEST!
In Luke 11:1, the disciples requested, “LORD,
TEACH US TO PRAY.”
Why didn’t they ask: Lord, teach us to CAST
out Demons, or Teach us to Preach, or
teach us to do Miracles?
They observed that each time the master
went to pray, something strange happened
thereafter: Mark 1:35- 38. Luke 6:12-13,17-
19 (all-night), Matthew 14:23-25.

CHRIST’S SECRET was Fasting and PRAYER:
Matt. 17:21, Luke 18:1

Ellen G. White
•Prayer is a science that must be learnt***
•It is a conversation between you and God
as to a father
•It is like opening your heart to your father
•It is one way of knowing God personally**
•It is the secret to success
•It is a transforming power that changes
character.

““Lord! Teach us to Pray!”Lord! Teach us to Pray!”

POWER IN PRAYER!
•“Prayer is heaven’s ordained means of
success in the conflict with sin and the
development of Christian character. The
divine influences that come in answer to the
prayer of faith will accomplish in the soul of the
suppliant all for which he pleads. For the
pardon of sin, for the Holy Spirit, for a
Christlike temper, for wisdom, and strength
to do His work, for any gift He has promised,
we may ask; and the promise is, “Ye shall
receive.” AA 564.1. PRAY! PRAY!

BENEFITS OF PRAYER: Ps. 55:17
We gain tremendous benefits from it.
JOY: The most joyful Christians are those
who spend time with God: Ps. 16:11
STRENGTH: We charge our spiritual batteries
during quiet time. Isa 40:29-31—eagle **
PEACE: We gain the promised peace of Christ
Isa 26:3, John 14:27. **

MORE BLESSINGS FOR SPENDING TIME WITH GOD
STABILITY: When we spend time with God in Bible
study, Prayer and worship, our lives become
stable.
SUCCESS: Daily dependence on God in worship
leads to success: Psalm 1:1-3. **
ANSWERED PRAYERS : During quiet time with
God, miracles take place in the life of the
worshipper: John 14:23, John 15:7.
CHARACTER TRANSFORMATION : By beholding,
we become like Him. 2 Cor. 3:18. eg. Magdalene!

QUIET TIME WITH GOD MEANS
DEPENDENCE ON GOD!
Relationship comes by communication.
Communication is by spending time together.
In relationship with God, it is study and
prayer. With God, Love is spelt TIME.
CHRIST IS OUR EXAMPLE: Mk. 1:35 (early
a.m.), Luke 6:12 (all-night), Luke 5:16 (all-
day), and oftentimes.
To live a quality life and be a blessing to
others is to surrender daily to God in prayer.

PRAYER LIFE OF CHRISTPRAYER LIFE OF CHRIST
““News about Jesus kept spreading. News about Jesus kept spreading.
Large crowds came to listen to him Large crowds came to listen to him
teach and to be healed of their teach and to be healed of their
diseases. But Jesus would OFTEN diseases. But Jesus would OFTEN
go to some place where he could be go to some place where he could be
alone and pray.” alone and pray.” Luke 5:15-16Luke 5:15-16
He prayed for people. He prayed for people.

HE COULD PRAY ALL
DAY!
•Matthew 14:23-26
•“Then he went up on a mountain where he
could be alone and pray. Later that evening,
he was still there. By this time the boat was
a long way from the shore. It was going
against the wind. A little while before
morning, Jesus came walking on the water
towards his disciples.”

HE PRAYED IN SECRET AT
DAWN EACH DAY!
•Mark 1:35
•Very early each morning, Jesus will
wake up and will go to a place where
he could be alone and pray.
•He was consistent in His prayer life.
That was Daniel’s secret as well:
Daniel 6:10. APPLY! EXPAND!

HE PRAYED WHEN IN
DISTRESS!
•“Now I am deeply troubled, and I don’t know
what to say. But I must not ask my Father
to keep me from this time of suffering. In
fact, I came into the world to suffer. So
Father, bring glory to yourself. A voice from
heaven said: I have already brought glory to
myself and I will do it again!!” John 12:27-
29.
•APPLY! HOW?

HE PRAYED FOR PETER!
•Jesus said: “Simon, listen to me.
Satan has demanded the right
(permission) to test each one of you, as
a farmer does when he separates
wheat from the husks. But I have
prayed that your faith will be strong.
And when you have become strong,
help others.” Luke 22:31-32.
•APPLY TO LEADERSHIP/PARENTING!

HE PRAYED FOR CHILDREN!
•“Some people brought their children to
Jesus so that he could place His hands
on them and pray for them. His
disciples told the people to stop
bothering Him. Jesus placed His hands
on the children (and blessed or prayed
for them)” Matthew 19:13, 15.

HE PRAYED FOR HIMSELF!
•“After Jesus had finished speaking to
his disciples, He looked up towards
heaven and prayed: Father, the time
has come for you to bring glory to your
Son, in order that He may bring glory to
you.” John 17:1,2.
•Jesus prayed to bring glory to the Father.

HE PRAYED FOR THE
COMFORTER FOR US!
•“If you love me you will do as I
command. Then I will ask the
Father to send you the Holy
Spirit who will help you and
always be with you. The Holy
Spirit will show you what is
true.” John 14:15-16.

His Response to their request: Matt. 6:9-13!
1. PRAYER OF ADORATION: Matt. 6: 6, 9.
•Our Father—It is a talk of relationship. It is
like son or daughter tallking to a Father.
Jesus did same: John 11:41; 17:1,9. No
name of Jesus is used here. It is the time
to tell God who He is to you. This is the
time to use the names of God in prayer: J
NISSI— God my Victor; J RAAH— Lord my Shepherd; J SHALOM —
Lord my peace; J. SHAMMAH—pesent God J. ELSHADDAI—
Almighty God; El OLAM—Everlasting God; J. NAKEH— The Lord
who smites enemies; J Jireh: The Lord will provide.
•WHO IS HE TO YOU? MY FATHER! OUR FATHER!

2. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
•Express your appreciation to God for the
following: Hallowed be thy Name!
•His daily protection
•Your parents, Your siblings
•For Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
•Your friends, Your family, your job, etc.
•Sing a song of praise. Add singing to
prayer

3. PRAYER OF CONFESSION CHANGES LIFE!
•Confess all your known sins. Forgive Us!
•Be embarrassingly specific, not general.
•Confess your emotional, mental and
physical sins.
•Confess your addicted habit and tell God
you dislike it and you are asking Him to take
it from you. Confess the sins of others.
•Ask the Holy Spirit power to cleanse you by
claiming the promises in 1 John 1:9; Ezekiel
36:25-27, Isaiah 1:18.

King Manasseh: 696-642 BC: 55 yrs
•Manasseh was the king of Judah who was
labelled the most wicked and idolatrous
king in the history of Judah.
2 Kings 21:1-9, 16: “Manasseh seduced Judah to do
more evil than did the nations whom the Lord
destroyed . . . .” He sacrificed his older son to a god
for power. With magic and spiritism, he killed all
his opponents. He ordered Prophet Isaiah to be
sawn into two halves.
He practiced witchcraft.

SAME MANASSEH! NEW MAN!
In 2 Chronicles 33:11-13, we read:
•“And the Lord spoke to Manasseh, but he would
not listen. Wherefore the Lord brought upon them
Assyrians which took Manasseh among the
thorns, and bound him with fetters and carried him
to Babylon. And when he was in affliction, he
besought the Lord his God, and humbled himself
greatly before God, and prayed to Him . . .
•“and God heard his supplication and
brought him again to Jerusalem. Then
Manasseh knew that the Lord he was God.”
•Apply to our situation: What happened?**

•4: Patience to wait on God’s time and
Understanding (Prov. 3:5-6).

6. THE PRAYER OF SILENCE
•Wait on your knees for a while.
•Do not rush!
•Listen carefully to the still small voice of
God.
