2. INTRODUCTION
❑Allthebodytissuesarebathedintissuefluid,
consistingofthediffusibleconstituentofblood
&wastematerialfromcell.
❑Sometissuefluidreturnstocapillariesat
theirvenousendthereminderdefusesthrough
themorepermeablewallofthelymph
capillaries,forminglymph.

5. Composition Of Lymph
❑Lymphisusuallyaclear,colorlessfluid,similar
tobloodplasmabutlowinprotein.
❑Itscompositionvariesfromplacetoplace;after
ameal,forexampleLymphdrinkingfromthesmall
intestine,takesonamilkyappearance,duetolipid
content.
❑Lymphmaycontainmacrophages,viruses,
bacteria,cellulardebrisandeventravelingcancer
cells.

TheCardiovascularSystempumpsbloodthroughitssystem
butcannotreturnallthefluidfrombodycells.
Thelymphsystempicksup60%ofthefluiddropped
offatthecellularlevel
Thetissuefluidisthenpickedupbylymph
capillaries.

upofanoutercortexandaninnermedulla.
❑Lymphnodesarepresentthroughoutthebody,are
moreconcentratednearandwithinthetrunk,andare
dividedintogroups.
❑Thereareabout450lymphnodesintheadult.
