Manager of Organization
Who is Manager A person who plans, organizes, directs and controls the allocation of human, material, financial, and information resources in pursuit of the organization’s goals is known as manager. People responsible for directing the efforts aimed at helping organizations to achieve their goals is known as manager. The people responsible for supervising the use of an organization’s resources to meet its goals.
Types of Manager 1.On the basis of Functions Functional Managers/Operational Manager A manager responsible for just one organizational activity such as accounting, human resources, sales, finance, marketing, or production Focus on technical areas of expertise. Use communication, planning and administration, teamwork and self- management competencies to get work done
Cont --- General Managers Responsible for the operations of more complex units—for example, a company or division Oversee work of functional managers Responsible for all the activities of the unit Need to acquire strategic and multicultural competencies to guide organization
On the basis of different levels 1.Top Managers Responsible for providing the overall direction of an organization Develop goals and strategies for entire organization Spend most of their time for planning and leading Communicate with key stakeholders—stockholders, unions, governmental agencies, etc. Use of multicultural and strategic action competencies to lead firm is crucial Chief Executive Officer, President, Vice President etc are included on it .
Contd ……………………….. 2.Middle Managers: Responsible for setting objectives that are consistent with top management’s goals and translating them into specific goals and plans for first-line managers to implement Responsible for coordinating activities of first-line managers Establish target dates for products/services to be delivered Need to coordinate with others for resources Rely on communication, teamwork, and planning and administration competencies to achieve goals. Department Head, Branch Manger, Plant Manager, Project Manager,HR Manager, Marketing Manager etc are included on it.

Functions of Manager Management Functions 1.Planning Setting objectives and determining in advance exactly how the objectives will be met. 2.Organizing Delegating and coordinating tasks and allocating resources to achieve objectives.

Managerial Roles Mintzberg identified three categories of roles – Decisional, Informational, Interpersonal 1.Decisional Roles Roles associated with the methods managers use in planning strategy and utilizing resources. Entrepreneur —Deciding which new projects or programs to initiate and to invest resources in. Disturbance handler —Managing an unexpected event or crisis. Resource allocator —Assigning resources between functions and divisions, setting the budgets of lower managers. Negotiator —Reaching agreements between other managers, unions, customers, or shareholders.

Figurehead —Symbolizing the organization’s mission and what it is seeking to achieve. Leader —Training, counseling, and mentoring high employee performance. Liaison —Linking and coordinating the activities of people and groups both inside and outside the organization.

Role of HealthCare Administration Healthcare Administration works to make sure that the establishment that they work for can adequately provide care while staying within their budget to provide care for the whole community. Similarly, Healthcare administration may also work to assist the human resources department with hiring, firing, and day to day management of their facilities. If the administrator works inside of a nursing home facility there is an added pressure to make sure that all of the records are up to the notoriously strict laws in place to protect elders from abuse. Following all state/federal laws that make sure that a facility either, home care, skilled care, nursing home, hospital, or specialty clinic adheres to the states rules and regulations for that particular field.
Health System Management Health System Management is defined as purposeful & efficient use of health system resources and to get members of the health team coordinated to work harmoniously in order to achieve the desired common Goals and Objectives.” Management in Health System, Why? Integration of Health Programs/Departments. Overload of work & Distribution of work. Changing Health needs/Health Demands. Improvement of health care delivery system by applying modern management methods and techniques .
Functions of Health System Management Planning of course of action/health activities (implementation & evaluation). Organizing resources, Organizational structure and assigning a specific job chart. Staffing: recruitment, training, supervision, monitoring. Controlling the quality of activities of the members through setting up standards for performance.

What skills needed in a Good Health Manager 1. Effective Communication Skill : Patience to listen, Ability to express. 2.Effective Conceptual Skill : Ability to understand the complexities of overall organizational activities, goals, objectives, targets, policies and procedures. 3.Effective Human Skill : Through motivation, discipline, training, performance appraisal, rewarding etc. 4.Developing Team-work: Establishing basic trust, oneness, compatibility, team spirit, conducive organizational climate etc.
