Mammals Hair or fur (to keep warm) Ex. Polar bear Lungs (to breathe in oxygen) Ex. Whales Give birth to babies. (Parents take care of the baby, until it can live alone) Feed milk to their babies

Bats are the only mammals that fly.

Whales and dolphins are mammals.

Types of mammals (Some mammals are grouped according to traits they have to help them survive) Examples Pouches Ex. Kangroos Wings Ex. Bats (only mammal that flies) Trunks Ex. Elephants

Birds Feathers Wings (to help them fly) Penguins have wings but cannot fly. Two legs Lungs (to breathe oxygen from the air) Lay eggs

Types of birds (grouped according to beak shape and foot shape) Barn owl’s foot has claws to catch mice. A cardinal uses its beak to eat seeds and its foot to hold to branches. The great blue heron uses its beak to catch fish and wads in water.
