LABIAL ASPECT Mandibular canine crown is narrower mesiodistally than that of the maxillary canine ( the difference is usually about 1mm ) Mesial outline of the crown is straight and inline with the mesial outline of the root.
The mesial cusp ridge is smaller than the distal cusp ridge Cervical line labially has a semi circular curvature apically Root - apical end is more sharply pointed
LINGUAL ASPECT Lingual surface of the crown is flatter Cingulum – smooth and poorly developed Lingual ridge – divides mesial and distal lingual fossa Root – narrower - max. canine
MESIAL ASPECTS Mandibular canine has less curvature labially on the crown. Lingual outline of the crown is curved Cingulum is not so pronounced Incisal portion of the crown is thinner labiolingually The tip of the cusp is more nearly centred over the root
Cervical line curves more toward the incisal portion - more on the mesial aspect The contact area on mesial aspect is in the incisal third Developmental depression on the root mesially is more pronounced
DISTAL ASPECT Contact area on the distal aspect is little higher on the distal third Curvature of the cervical line is shorter compared to the mesial aspect
INCISAL ASPECT Like maxillary canine the labiolingual dimension is more than the mesiodistal dimension The cusp tip appears inclined in a lingual direction ROOT The root is shorter by 1 or 2 mm than max. canine The developmental depression is more pronounced on the lower canine
