Mandibualar central verses lateral Incisors Sana gul Roll no 98
Learning objectives: At the end of this presentation we will become familiar with the main differences between mandibular central and lateral incisors.
Introduction Mandibular incisor are four in number two central incisors and two lateral incisor. They help in Mastication by biting and incising of food. They have role in esthatic and phonetics. They are smallest teeth in permanent dentition. They are simplest and least variable teeth.
Differences between mandibular central and lateral incisors Central incisors Lateral incisors
Arch position Central incisors are located adjacent to the midline. Mesially in contact with each other. Distally in contact with lateral incisors. Lateral incisor is second tooth from the midline. Mesially in contact with central incisor. Distally in contact with canine.
General form Narrow mesiodistally . Smallest crown. Slightly larger than central incisor.
Labial aspect Sharp mesioincisal angle. Sharp distoincisal angle. Incisal line is straight and perpendicular to the long axis of tooth. Sharp mesioincisal angle. Round distoincisal angle. Distal margin is shorter than the mesial margin.
Lingual aspect Cingulum is pResent . Mesial and distal marginal ridges are of equal length. Cingulum is more offset to the distal. Mesial marginal ridge is longer than distal marginal ridge.
Mesial and distal aspects Mesial and distal surfaces aremore.pst same. Cervical line curvature is more. Distal surface is slightly shorter than mesial. Cervical line curvature are less.
Incisal aspect Incisal edge is straight mesiodistally . Crown is not twisted on its root. Incisal edge is not straight mesiodistally (Curve toward the lingual in its distal portion). Crown is slightly twisted on its root.
