Introduction The mango seed weevil is one of major pests of mangoes in East Africa. The larva, which is the damaging stage of the pest, enters the fruit burrowing through the flesh into the seeds, where they feed until pupation, destroying the seed. Early attack leads to premature fruit fall. If the attacks occur at a later stage, fruit infestation is very difficult to detect, since there are no external signs of infestation.

Host: - Mango Identification :- Grub:- A full growth grub is legless. Fleshly and yellow with dark head. Dark weevil after emergence remain inactive. Hidden in the cracks and crevices on the trunk. Adult:- adult is a dark brown with short snout.

Life Cycle The egg period is 7 days . a single fruit up to 15 eggs may be laid in a day The larval period is 20-30 days. It undergoes five larval instars and pupate inside the nut along the concave side . The pupal period is 7 days The adult weevil is stoutly built, 6 mm long, dark brown in colour . The total life cycle occupies 40-50 days .

. EGG Larvae Grub Adult Total life cycle occupies 40-50 days.

NOD.. Grub makes zigzag tunnel with pulp. Eats unripe tissue and bore into cotyledons. Fruits dropping at marble stage. Ovipostion injuries on marble size fruit. Tunnel cotyledons in mature fruit by grubs.

Management Collect and destroy the fallen fruit. Spray application of F enthion 100 EC 1ml/L (1 st at marble stage of the fruit 2 nd at 15 days interval ). During non flowering season direct spray towards the base of the trunk.
