Introduction Manipur is located as a lush green corner on the northeastern part of India’s Map. Manipur, fondly called “the bejeweled land”, is truly one of the hidden gems of Northeast India . HISTORY OF MANIPUR Manipur is also known as Meitrabak , Kangleipak or Meeteileipak " Kangla " was the first capital of the kingdom called " Kangleipak ". " Lainingthou Sanamahi " is the creator of all Manipur. 1956: Manipur becomes a Union Territory. 1972: Manipur becomes a Full-Fledged State within India

People of Manipur The people of Manipur are grouped into three main ethnic communities – Meiteis , Nagas, Kukis The Meitei constitute the majority of the state's population.
Main Language Of The State The main language of the state is Meiteilon (also known as Manipuri) Manipur has a diverse group of ethnic groups speaking different languages and dialects FESTIVALS OF MANIPUR Manipur is land of festivals. A year in Manipur represents a cycle of festivals. Hardly a month passes by without a festival which, to the Manipuris , is a symbol of their cultural, social and religious aspirations. Ningol Chakkouba - Ningol Chakouba is one of the festivals in the state which falls on the second lunar day of the Manipuri calendar’s Hiyangei month.
SANGAI FESTIVAL Every year the State of Manipur celebrates the “Manipur Sangai Festival” from 21st to 30th November . The 'Festival' is named after the State animal, Sangai , the brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur. Shirui Lily Festival an annual cultural state festival of Manipur organised by Manipur Tourism Department every year. Initially, the festival was celebrated by the locals of Shirui village in Ukhrul to pay tribute to the state flower Shirui Lily from the last week of May through the second week of June . HEIKRU HITONGBA (Boat race) Celebrated in the month of September . Long narrow boats are used to accommodate a large number of rowers. Idol of Lord Vishnu is installed before the commencement of the race
CULTURAL HERITAGE OF MANIPUR • Shri Govindajee Temple A historic Vaishnavite centre , adjoining Manipur’s former Maharajas’ Royal Palace, the Govindajee temple is one of the most attractive sights for the tourists. • Vishnu Temple Bishnupur town prides itself in the 15th century Vishnu Temple builf of small bricks, supposedly of Chinese influence. • The Archdiocese of Imphal The Archdiocese of Imphal covers the entire State of Manipur which is bounded by Nagaland in the North, Mizoram in the South, Upper Myanmar in the East and Cachar district of Assam in the West.

Pung Cholom Pung Cholom dance is performed as dance in which the person dancing is trying to call the deity. This dance is performed before Sankirtana and Ras Lila. This dance is a very well polished classical dance. It is the soul of Manipuri Sankritana music and Manipuri classical dance. The dance performance is the essence of social and devotional ceremonies in Manipur.
Khamba Thoibi Folk Dance Khamba Thoibi dance is a duet dance comprising a male and a female partner. The dance is dedicated to the sylvan deity of Thangjing of Moirang The dance is performed by Khamba and Thoibi, the hero and heroine of the Moirang episode of the hoary past.
Maibi dance Maibi dance is performed during the festival of Lai-Haraoba which is an annual ritual festival of the people of Manipur. In this dance the Maibis which are the priestesses and are considered to be spiritual mediums - dance in a way describing the whole concept of how Manipuri people live.

The cuisine of Manipur is a simple platter consisting of rice, vegetables, fish and salad. The food of Manipur is healthy and organic. The food is both vegetarian and non vegetarian.
