Introduction of Mardindle Abrasion test The Martindale is a testing instrument that is used to assess the abrasion resistance and fabric pilling of textiles. Abrasion resistance is how resistant a fabric is against other materials after experiencing constant friction.

Objectives of abrasion test To determine the abrasion resistance of fabric To know about abrasion resistance fabric

Main parts Top plate Sample holder Poly urethane foam Peg Bearing slot Abrasine foam Pilling felt Clamping ring Opening nut

Application of abrasion test Martindale Abrasion Test is ideal for determining the abrasion resistance of upper, lining, socking, and similar types of shoe materials, particularly those made of fabric.

Working procedure At first cut the fabric into 4 pieces according to the measurement of the instrument. Weigh these 4 pieces of fabric samples. Now place these samples in the instrument under a certain load as supplied in the instrument. Now start the machine and observe the counter of abrasion no. Stop the machine power after completing 50,000 cycles take the weigth (x2) in mg.

Formula for abrasion test Here, X1= sample weight before abrasion X2= sample weight after abrasion Formula, Weight lose %= (X1-X2 )/X1 *100%

Classification of abrasion test Flat abrasion- A flat area of material is abraded. Edge abrasion- This kind of abrasion which occurs at collars and folds . Flex abrasion- In this case rubbing is accompanied by flexing and bending.

Importance of abrasion test Testing the abrasion and pilling of a fabric is extremely important as it ensures quality and consistency within clothing for manufacturers. The Martindale provides reliable and repeatable tests that can be used to analyses any defaults or issues with the fabric before it is manufactured.

Conclusion By this tester we can easily identified about the fabric conditions. Martindle abrasion tester is very useful machine in textile industry.
