Expanded Notation of a Number Teacher CIEJEI

Example #1 Expanded Form – 1 st Method 1. Express the number as a sum of the value of its digits. 3 300 4 8 = 300 + 40 + 8 3 in hundred’s place → 40 4 in ten’s place → 8 8 in one’s place → 2. Write the values as the sum in decreasing order.

Example #2 Expanded Form – 1 st Method 1. Express the number as a sum of the value of its digits. 9 900 7 3 = 900 + 70 + 3 9 in hundred’s place → 70 7 in ten’s place → 3 3 in one’s place → 2. Write the values as the sum in decreasing order.

Example #3 Expanded Form – 1 st Method 1. Express the number as a sum of the value of its digits. 7 700 2 1 = 700 + 20 + 1 7 in hundred’s place → 20 2 in ten’s place → 1 1 in one’s place → 2. Write the values as the sum in decreasing order.

Example #4 1. Express the number as a sum of the value of its digits. 8 800 1 5 = 7,000 + 800 + 10 + 5 8 in hundred’s place → 10 1 in ten’s place → 5 5 in one’s place → 2. Write the values as the sum in decreasing order. 7, 7,000 7 in thousand’s place → Expanded Form – 1 st Method

Example #5 1. Express the number as a sum of the value of its digits. 3 300 9 4 = 1,000 + 300 + 90 + 4 3 in hundred’s place → 90 9 in ten’s place → 4 4 in one’s place → 2. Write the values as the sum in decreasing order. 1, 1,000 1 in thousand’s place → Expanded Form – 1 st Method

Example #4 1. Express the number as a sum of the value of its digits. 3 300 7 4 = 20,000+7,000+300+70+4 3 in hundred’s place → 70 7 in ten’s place → 4 4 in one’s place → 2. Write the values as the sum in decreasing order. 7, 7,000 7 in thousand’s place → 2 20,000 2 in ten thousand’s place → Expanded Form – 1 st Method

Example #5 1. Express the number as a sum of the value of its digits. 2 200 5 = 90,000 + 3,000 + 200 + 5 2 in hundred’s place → - 0 in ten’s place → 5 5 in one’s place → 2. Write the values as the sum in decreasing order. 3, 3,000 3 in thousand’s place → 9 90,000 9 in ten thousand’s place → Expanded Form – 1 st Method
