Measures of Angles By: Teacher Sarah

Have a drill on identifying points, line segments, rays, and lines with geometric figures. After the activity, ask pupils to give a representation of points, line segments, rays, and lines. Also provide exercises on naming points, lines, line segments, and rays.

Game – “What Am I?” I have an exact location in space. I am represented by a dot. I have an endpoint and I can go on and on in opposite directions. I start out at a point and can be extended in one direction. I am a part of a line with 2 endpoints. point line ray l ine segment

Picture yourselves in front of the flagpole forming lines for the flag raising ceremony. How should you form your lines?

Game – “Forming Lines” Form different kinds of lines depending on the instruction given. All those whose birth month is June will form 2 straight lines. All those whoa are wearing T-shirts will form 2 lines that meet at the center. All those whose birth month is March will form one line and another line for those who were born in August. Then, form 2 lines that show square corners.

You’ve just played “Forming Lines.” the illustrations show the lines that you formed. What can you say about the lines in Figure 1? Figure 2? Figure 3? What kind of lines are in Figure 1? Figure 2? Figure 3? figure 1 figure 2 figure 3

Group Activities: Work together in illustrating the given figures to show the different kinds of lines using cutouts. Group 1; crossroads Group 2: time using hands of the clock Group 3: Designs of a ceiling Group 4: Design of a T-shirt (example: checkered, striped) Group 5: Electric posts Group 6: Window panes After all the groups have finished, display your outputs on the board. Tell something about the figures that you formed and what kind of lines each figure shows.

How did you find the activity? Who were you able to illustrate figure given to you? Did you cooperate with your group mates?

How many lines does each diagram below have? Two lines can be related to each other in different ways. A B C F G H I J K L M

Can you name the different kinds of lines shown above? Line A intersects with line C. they form intersecting lines . Line FG and line HI do not intersect. They do not meet at any point. They are parallel lines . Line KL and line JM intersect in a special way of forming square corners. They are perpendicular lines .

Tell whether the following are parallel lines, intersecting lines, or perpendicular lines. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Draw a star for parallel lines , a diamond for intersecting lines , and a square for perpendicular lines . 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

A. Identify the different kinds of lines in the figure below. B A J F G C D E H I

Give 2 pairs of parallel lines. Give 2 pairs of intersecting lines. Give a pair of perpendicular lines.

B. Using the figure below, answer the questions that follow. A E B C D I

How many lines are there in the figure/ What are the intersecting lines? What is the point of intersection of line CI and AI? Which lines are parallel? Which lines are perpendicular?

Parallel lines are lines that do not meet. Intersecting lines are lines that cross each other. Perpendicular lines are lines that intersect and form square corners.

Tell the kind of lines referred to in each item. Capital letter H Capital letter X Checkered T-shirt Hands of clock at 3:30 Corner of a blackboard

Using a ruler and set square, draw each pair of lines in the given statements. Line AB and line CD are parallel lines. Line EF and line GH are perpendicular lines. Lines IJ and line KL are intersecting lines. They intersect at point M.

Write the letter of the correct answer. Which pair of lines are parallel lines? a. b. c. d. Which of the following shows parallel lines? a. b. c. d.

Which figure illustrates perpendicular lines a. b. c. d. Which solution tells about parallel lines Capital letter L c. Corner of a table Hands of a clock at 6:00 d. Striped T-shirt Which is not a true statement? Two intersecting lines meet at one point. Perpendicular lines form square corners. Parallel lines do not meet. Intersecting lines do not cross each other.

Draw a circle for parallel lines, triangle for intersecting lines, and rectangle for perpendicular lines. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Draw each pair of lines using a ruler and a set square. Line AB is parallel to line CD. Line EF intersects line GH. Line IJ is perpendicular to line KL. Line MN is parallel to line OP. Line QR is perpendicular to line ST.
