1. Reading and Writing Numbers

2. Objectives: Write numbers in standard form. Write numbers in word form. Write numbers in expanded form.

4. Numbers can be written in symbols and in words. Numbers written in symbols are numbers in standard form , numbers written in words are numbers in word form and numbers written by their addition of values are in the expanded form .

5. Standard Form Numbers can be written in standard form using the symbols from 0 to 9 .

6. Word Form Numbers written in words are called number words.

7. Expanded Form Writing a number to show the value of each digit. It is shown as a sum of each digit multiplied by its matching place value.

9. Writing numbers in Word Form up to Thousands We can group these numbers into five for us to be able to write numbers in word form easier.

11. ONES one two three four five six seven eight nine   ONES This is where it all starts. Learn these digits and the rest will be easier. We write them in the place value of ones.

13. TEENS have you noticed something? Except from 10, 11 and 12, all the numbers have the suffix “teen”. Like the number seven teen . These digits are written in tens place value. They are a combination of tens and ones place values so, you cannot write them beside another digit in tens place or ones place value. 15. TENS you can recognize them because they end in “ty”. As in the number for ty . We write them in tens place value. TENS twenty thirty forty fifty sixty seventy eighty ninety

17. HUNDREDS This one is easy. You can just look at the “ones”. Just add the word hundred after them. Example: nine hundred . As the name suggests, they are written in the hundreds place value. 19. THOUSANDS These numbers can be easily recognized because of the word “thousand”. THOUSANDS one thousand two thousand three thousand four thousand five thousand six thousand seven thousand eight thousand nine thousand ten thousand

20. Example 1: 785 7 is in the hundreds place, therefore we will write seven hundred 8 is in the tens place, therefore we will write eighty And 5 that is in the ones place, will write it in its basic word five. Combine them to have seven hundred eighty-five.

21. Example 1: 543 5 is in the hundreds place, therefore we will write five hundred 4 is in the tens place, therefore we will write forty And 3 that is in the ones place, will write it in its basic word three. Combine them to have five hundred forty-three.

22. • We write a hyphen ( - ) after the tens. Example: forty-three, seventy-nine • In writing four-digit numbers, use a comma or a space after the thousands digit. Ex.seven hundred thirty-nine. Example: 324 = three hundred twenty-four.

23. Don’t mind me, I’m always missing. Emo Zero Example 1: 3 055 We don’t write this as three thousand zero thousand, zero hundred fifty-five. Instead we write it as three thousand, fifty-five. Example 2: 505 We don’t write this as five hundred zero-five. We just write five hundred five.

24. We spell out the “0” digit in writing the word form of a number. • 220 → two hundred twenty • 200 → two hundred • 202 → two hundred two
