DAY 3

Find the different words in the list in the puzzle. These might be written horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

In the number 1,234, what is the place value of 1? Of 2? Of 3? Of 4?

Today’s lesson is about understanding the concept of place value in 6-digit numbers and its value. Emphasize the importance of this skill for performing arithmetic operations and reading large numbers accurately.

Let’s define the following terms: 1.place value 2. Digit 3.thousands 4.hundreds 5.tens 6.ones

The Philippines recorded a total of 164,000 tourists in2021, ranking 144th in the world in absolute terms. Let us read and determine the position of each digit, and read.

PLACE VALUE or POSITION OF A DIGIT

Illustrative Example: 1. Determine the place value of each digit in 987,654. Answer 9 - hundred thousands 8 – ten thousands 7 – thousands 6 – hundreds 5 – tens 4 – ones

It is important to note that when we say “ten thousands” we are referring to the digit's position while when we say “ten thousand”, we are referring to the number 10,000. Thus, we put “s” when we talk about place value.

Create the number from the given clues. Clues: 1. The thousands digit is 3. 2. The hundreds digit is 2 less than the thousands digit. 3. The tens digit is 1 more than its units digit. 4. The units digit is 5.

What is the importance of understanding place value, especially in larger numbers? How will your knowledge can help in solving problems and performing calculations accurately?

Analyze the underlined digit of the number. Put a checkmark on the right column of its place value. An example is provided.

1. What is the value of the digit in the hundreds place in 347,519? 2. Find the digit in the thousands place in 234,789. 3. In the number 764,352, what is the value of the digit in the ones place? 4. In the number 524,356, what is the place value of 2? 5. In 453,472, what digit is in hundreds place?

VALUE OF A DIGIT The value of a digit refers to the numerical worth or significance it holds within a number. This worth is determined by the position of the digit within the number, known as its place value, and the value of the digit itself.

Example: In 164,000, the value of the digit 4 is 4,000 (four thousand), the value of 6 is 60,000 (sixty thousand), and the value of 1 is 100,000 (one hundred thousand).

In 77,777, the value of 7 in the ten thousands place is 70,000. The value of 7 in the thousands place is 7,000, and so on.
