MATHEMATICAL SENTENCE
A mathematical sentence is composed of numbers, variables, or
combination of numbers and variables which can either be true
or false, but not both.

Study the following
examples:
1.3 + 2 = 5

●This statement is true and it is mathematical sentence.

Study the following
examples:
2. 5 + 4 = 7

●We know that this statement is false, but still it is a
mathematical sentence.

Consider the statement:
“A number increased by 8
is 15.”

Represent the unknown number
with x and translate it as
x + 8 = 15.
This mathematical sentence has
two phrases, x + 8 and 15
connected by an equal sign.

Hence, the mathematical sentence
is an equation.
