Introduction What is a Circle ? A circle is a collection all points in a plane which are equidistant from a fixed point. The fixed point is called the Centre and the fixed distance is called the Radius . The Diameter of a circle is any straight line that passes through the centre and whose endpoints lie on the Circle A circle divides the plane on which it lies into three parts. They are: Inside the circle, which is called Interior of the circle The circle Outside the circle, which is also called Exterior of the circle

What is a Chord ? A Chord of a circle is a straight line segment whose both endpoints lie on a circle. If the chord is extended, it is called a Secant. The largest chord of the circle is a Diameter. What is a Tangent ? The Tangent is a line that just touches the circle at only one point. You can draw only 2 tangents from an external point. What is Point of contact? Point of contact is the point on the circle where the Tangent touches What is a Arc ? A piece of circle between two points is called an Arc. There are two types of Arc: i) Major Arc is the Arc which has more length and ii) Minor Arc For Ex. The

What are Slices ? There are 2 main Slices of a Circle i) Sector ii) Segment A pizza slice is a Sector The slice made by a Chord is the Segment

Theorem 1st Theorem The Tangent at any point of a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact. It means that if a radius is drawn from the point of contact of the tangent then it is perpendicular to the radius 2nd Theorem The lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal. As you know that we can draw only 2 tangents from an external point, Hence both the tangents are equal to one another.

Real life examples There aren’t limited Real Life Examples. So I am going to show you some of them! 😃 Vehicle tyres Currency coins Watches, Wall clocks Dart boards Human faces

What did we learn? What are circles Parts of the Circle Chords Tangents Arcs Slices 2 Theorems of the Circle The Tangent at any point of a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact. It means that if a radius is drawn from the point of contact of the tangent then it is perpendicular to the radius Uses of Circles in Daily life
