03 INCOME INEQUALITY
Income inequality in India Despite significant economic growth, India still faces high poverty levels due to factors like income inequality, overpopulation , uneven distribution of wealth and poor access to education and healthcare in certain regions. Poverty significantly impacts an economy by reducing overall productivity due to poor health, lack of education, and limited economic opportunities for individuals living in poverty, ultimately hindering economic growth, increasing government spending on social programs, and limiting consumer spending power within the market.
Effect of poverty on health and education As of December 2024 approximately 250 million children do not have access to education which means 16% of the children population do not attend schools. The primary reason for this situation is poverty More than 2.2 Billion people do not have access to clean drinking water which means ¼ of the population do not drink clean water which can lead to diseases such as Cholera,Diarrhea,Typhoid and many more life threatening diseases.
Strategies to balance GDP growth with reducing inequalities 1) I nvesting in quality education and healthcare for all 2) Implementing progressive taxation systems 3) Promoting policies that increase labor force participation particularly for marginalized groups 4) Targeted social programs and fostering inclusive economic growth by addressing market access and opportunities for disadvantaged communities 5) All while maintaining a focus on economic efficiency and sustainable growth.
