The volcano climbs 2462 meters above the Albay Gulf, with steep top slopes of 35-40 degrees and a tiny summit crater.Eruptions have been recorded since 1616, and they range from strombolian to basaltic plinian, with cyclical activity beginning with basaltic eruptions and ending with long-term andesitic lava flows. Eruptions primarily originate from the central conduit, but lava flows have traveled far down the sides.
