YAYASAN MASYARAKAT
DAN PERIKANAN
INDONESIA
MISSION
To empower coastal communities in Indonesia to actively participate in
ecosystem and fisheries management, harness market opportunities,
to improve the sustainability of their fishing livelihoods.
VISION
Sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities
encompassing effective ecosystem and fisheries management
in Indonesia.
YAYASAN
MASYARAKAT
DAN PERIKANAN
INDONESIA
MDPI was founded in 2013 with
the aim of driving responsible and sustainable
fisheries activities for the well-being of fishing
communities and fishery resources across Indonesia.
MDPI works to empower, embolden, and strengthen coastal
communities’ capacity to actively participate in fisheries
management, and ensure that they receive direct benefits.
MDPI increases fisheries sustainability while supporting
social improvements within communities and supply chains
based on international standards. Since 2014, MDPI has
assisted 37 Fisher Associations to manage more than 10
billion Rupiah of premium funds generated from catching
2,700 tons of yellowfin tuna.
MDPI is proud to be the implementing partner of the
Maluku and North Maluku yellowfin tuna handline fishery,
the first fishery in the world to attain Fair Trade certification,
and the second fishery in Indonesia to be certified by the
Marine Stewardship Council.
FISHERY PRODUCT
CERTIFICATION
•Improve fishers’ organizational and financial management capacity
•Fishers manage premium funds programs for community
development, including to improve access to education and health,
safety-at-sea, and environmental awareness
•Fishers gain access to fish handling and safety training
•Improved traceability in the supply chain
MDPI is a leader in the implementation of traceability-based
technology (TBT) to capture critical tracking events and key
data elements from hook to plate ensuring that small-scale
fisheries are in compliance with national and export regulations
TRACEABILITY
AND SUSTAINABLE
SUPPLY CHAIN
•I-Fish app (an electronic information system for data collection with
offline functionality)
•Trafiz (a mobile catch documentation application that enables the first
buyer or fish supplier to collect and submit traceability data)
•TraceTales(a fully integrated production, inventory system for seafood
processors). TraceTales, which digitally captures data from raw material
through processing, packaging, and shipping is used in eight processing
facilities across Indonesia tracing more than 5,700 tons of fish in 2020.
Since 2013, MDPI has worked to crack the small-scale fishery technology
nut. We develop systems and technology applications designed
specifically for the small-scale sector, using either open source or low-
cost platforms to make technology accessible to as many small-scale
actors as possible. Through this approach, MDPI combats Illegal,
Unregulated, and Unreported (IUU) fishing and ensures that small-scale
fisheries are able to compete and maintain market access.Through several
public-private partnerships and university funded projects, MDPI has
developed three unique technology platforms
With our experience on traceability implementation with
TraceTales that handled by Sahabat Laut Lestari today, MDPI
support STELINA implementation as a strategic regulation to
ensure traceability and sustainable aspects on our fisheries supply
chain are monitored and regulated. This support including :
IUU Fishing is a significant concern for the international market,
which aims to ensure that seafood products traded globally are
not associated with illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing
practices. Several countries have implemented regulations to
address this issue. These traceability systems are predominantly
electronic, highlighting the importance of developing STELINA
as an electronic catch documentation and traceability (eCDT)
tool at the national level.
TRACETALES AND
STELINA
•Involve on the development of STELINA roadmap in 2021
•Share lesson learn from TraceTales to STELINA implementation for
processing company
•Piloting TraceTales integration to STELINA in collaboration with 2
processing company in Bitung and Morotai
OBJECTIVES:
Facilitate the development of STELINA
API by providing integration modules
with existing traceability technologies.
STELINA
INTEGRATION
BENEFITS:
Providing alternatives solution for
processing companies that already use the
traceability system so they can use STELINA
more easily and quickly
●No need to entry double
●Data more reliably and integrated
