MEANINGFUL SENTENCES
THE TASK:Write a meaningful sentence for each assigned vocabulary word.
Example 1: candor - the state or quality of being frank, open, and sincere in speech or
expression
The doctor spoke with candor. (not meaningful)
As he delivered the diagnosis, the doctor spoke with both candor
and sincerity. (meaningful)
Example 2 (grammar directive – use an appositive):
The doctor spoke with candor, openness, as he delivered the diagnosis.
THE RULES:
Task 1: Define each word, including part of speech, synonym and antonym.
Task 2: Write meaningful sentences with the identified vocabulary words.
Task 3: Have your sentences checked and initialized.
Task 4: Test by writing your meaningful sentences perfectly.
All tasks are to be completed on a weekly basis.
SCORING:
Five points off for each error (spelling, punctuation, usage, sense, etc.)
No more that twenty points for each sentence
Ten points off for a fragment or run-on
Ten points off for a wrong definition
Note: Various grammar directives will be assigned weekly.
