Measles Measles is an airborne disease caused by a virus , and it is very contagious. Measles is also called Rubeola, 10 -day measles or red measles. Measles is not same as German measles Rubella or Three day measles but the two illness share some signs and symptoms, such as the red rash, fever, sore throat. Measles is caused by different virus than rubella.

Sign & symptoms of measles Symptoms of measles generally first appear within 10 to 12 days of exposure to virus. High fever Tiredness Runny nose Cough Red or bloodshot eyes Red rash Rash can last up to 7 days and generally appear within 14 days of exposure to the virus.

Other symptoms of measles Transmission of Measles A sore throat. White spots in the mouth. Muscle pain. Sensitivity to light (light makes your eyes hurt).

cause Of Measles Measles is caused by an extremely contagious virus called Morbillivirus.

Measles is spread by: Contaminated droplets that are spread through the air when you cough, sneeze, or talk. Kissing someone who has measles. Sharing drinks or food with someone with measles. Shaking hands or holding hands or hugging some one with measles. From pregnant women to their babies ( either during the pregnancy, delivery or while nursing). The airborne respiratory droplets can remain the room even after the measles is gone. Measles is highly contagious and spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

How Measles virus spread Measles can be spread through the air from respiratory droplets and small aerosol particles. An infected person can release the virus into the air when the cough or sneeze.

Diagnosis of measles Laboratory tests to find the virus in sample of: Blood Secretions from your nose and throat Urine (Pee)

Treatment of measles There is no specific treatment for measles. The virus must run its course, which usually takes about 10 to 14 days. Getting plenty of rest. Drinking enough fluids. Gargling with salt water. Avoiding harsh light if your eyes hurt.

Complications of measles Complications happen most often in: Children ages 5 years old or younger. Pregnant people. Adult ages 20 or olders . People with weakened immune systems. Complications of measles include: Diarrhea Ear infections Pneumonia Encephalitis. This condition can cause inflammation of the brain, leading to seizures, hearing loss or learning disabilities. Death.
