MEASUREMENT and GEOMETRY
Students will be able to.... illustrate and describe point, line, ray, line segment, angle, and plane using models and geometric notations.
VOCABULARY
Point- It has no dimension and is usually represented by a dot.
Line- It is a set of connected points that extend infinitely in opposite directions.
Line Segment/Segment- It is formed when two distinct points are connected with a line.
Ray- A ray is a line that moves endlessly in one direction.
Plane- It is a flat surface that extends infinitely in all directions.
Angle - An angle is formed when two rays share a common end point.
MEASURING ANGLES
An angle is measured with reference to a circle with its center at the common endpoint of the rays. A circle equals 360°. Each one degree that is used to measure is a fraction of this.
The angle of a line is equal to 180°.
If you are given an angle of 30° you can find the missing angle (n) using addition. 30°+ n= 180° n = 150°
Using a Protractor- To use a protractor you line up your end point and bottom ray. Then you can find the degree of the angle by looking at the top ray.
