On Screen and Off Screen Sound On Screen sound – we can see the source of the sound Off screen sound – the source of the sound comes from outside the frame Helps move the narrative forward Example – Teenagers in the woods at night hear a scream in the distance so one person goes to investigate

Sound Diegetic sound - sound which is part of the film world you are watching - you can see the source of the sound Non diegetic sound –not part of the film - it has been edited in background music voice-over sound effect

Parallel sound – sound which mirrors the mood of what we are seeing Watch – Scream Opening

Contrapuntal sound – sounds that do not fit the scene, can make the audience nervous or uncomfortable Example – Skyfall Listen Now watch
