1 .Clinical waste. These include; Bloody / puriline waste-from patients diagnosed /suspected to have infected blood. Infectious waste-those from patients with diseases defined as infectious under Disease Act.

Chemical waste Formaldehyde, batteries ,photographic chemicals, solvents ,organic and inorganic materials. Brown. Cytotoxic waste Purple. Food remains. White. Sharps Safety box.

General disposal options of medical wastes. Burning in the open. Medium temperature incineration. Composting. Returning to the manufacturer i.e x-ray films. Waste encapsulation.

Measures of risk reduction due to medical wastes. Good housekeeping of the facility both inside and outside. Do not open waste containers. Washing hands after handling of infected waste/materials.

Handling of sharps cautiously to avoid needle prick. Regular use of PPEs. Be aware of PEP and treatment procedures of injuries. Cleaning of contaminated areas and reporting of sharps injuries and incidences. Get full-course vaccination for hepatitis and TT vaccines.
