Galician folk instruments

What are membranophones?
Such instruments are based on a
soundbox, which can be made
with different materials. It’s
attached to a membrane or
patch (usually but not always,
stretched leather), which when
beaten makes the sound.
It can be beaten with the hand
Tambourines (1), tambourine
(2), tambourine square (3)
With drumsticks: Tamboril (4),
drums (5), drums (6)
Rubbed: zambombas (7)

Tambourine square and round
In Galicia this instrument
only makes sense in its
square shape , because in
the rest of the peninsula
“our pandeiro”
(tambourine ) is a round
instrument. For this
reason, musicologists
come to define “square
pandeiro" and "round
pandeiro”.

Bass drum
The bass drum is a
musical instrument,
also called skin patch
that is played with a
drumstick

Drum
The drum is a percussion
instrument played with one stick.
The cylindrical membranophone is
typical of the Iberian Peninsula.
 It consists of a wooden cylinder
being both sides covered with
patches of parchment, which are
tightened with ropes and leather
straps. The sound is generated by
beating on the stretched membrane
with the stick.

Tambourine
The tambourine is a percussion
membranophone instrument
present in many cultures.
It consists of a ring that has a
tight skin, covering the upper
side. There is a set of
elements attached to the ring
that make the sound .
Usually is played with the
fingers, tapping on the skin, or
beating it on the hand.
