MEANING & DEFINITION

MEASUREMENT MEANING OF MEASUREMENT: Measurement is the act or process of measuring. The term ‘measurement’ means assigning numbers or some other symbols to the characteristics of certain objects. When numbers are used, the researcher must have a rule for assigning a number to an observation in a way that provides an accurate description.

DEFINITION OF MEASUREMENT: According to Lord Kelvin, “Measurement is the beginning of science, until you can measure something, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfied.” It is the determination of the size/magnitude of something.

ASSESSMENT MEANING OF ASSESSMENT: Assessment is the action or an instance of making a judgment about something. Assessment is a process by which information is obtained relative to some known objective or goal. Assessment is a broad term that includes testing. Test is a special type of assessment.

DEFINITION OF ASSESSMENT: Assessment is the process of documenting, usually in measurable terms, knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs.

EVALUATION MEANING: Evaluation means finding the value of something. Evaluation is a continuous process. It refers to the process of determining the extent to which instructional objectives are attained. It involves measurements and assigning qualitative meaning through value judgements.

DEFINITION OF EVALUATION: According to James M. Lee , “Evaluation is the appraisal of pupil’s progress in attaining educational goals set by the school, the class and himself. The chief purpose of evaluation is to guide and further the students learning. Education is thus a positive rather than a negative process.”
