Focus group 8 to 14 people selected due to their relationship and insight into the topic at stake to generate business idea through a frank discussion. In focus group, in-depth discussion rather than simply asking question to solicit participants response, discussion is carried out for any new product or service. There is moderator who enables and challenge the group to give off their best.
Brainstorming This is the process of thinking through a specific topic to generating several ideas. Brainstorming session could be format or informal One person trying to fish for ideas Group of people with a moderator using thinking through each others idea. Brainstorming sessions are usually informal since relaxed atmosphere produces better ideas.
Problem Inventory Analysis In problem inventory analysis, for obtaining new idea and solutions by focusing on existing problem Thereafter, they are asked to identify and discuss product in each category that have a particular problem. This method is effective when an improved service/ product desired.
Observation Observations can be used to describe a person or group of people’s behavior by probing: What do people buy? (Idea for mass production) When people buy? (Seasonal product) Why do they buy? (Necessity or luxury items) What could be alternatives? (Substitute identification) What do people buy but don’t like? (Transformation of existing market) All these question should be asked in order to identify the business ideas for particular sector.
Research & Development This activity is aimed to invent new product and hence new business ideas through utilizing knowledge acquiring during study or work experience . Researching new method, skill and techniques enable entrepreneurs to enhance his performance and ability to deliver products and services.
Emerging Trends To identify emerging trend can generate new business idea for the entrepreneurship. If it is picked in the early stage of emergence, it can be huge revenue generating business. For example, digital payment is an emerging trend in India, which can help give boost to the economy also.
Creative problem solving Techniques Creative problem solving capacity can only be enhanced through various mental exercise techniques. Through creativity affected by age, education, bureaucracy and lack of use, following are some of such techniques which can help in solving the problems:
Brainstorming Session start with problem statement. Topic of the brainstorming should be clearly given on it and based on that problem can be solved. No criticism is allowed and thoughts should be creative Reverse Brainstorming A group method that focuses on the negative aspects of a product, service, or idea as well as ways to overcome these problems. Care must be taken to maintain group morale.
Brain-writing A form of written brainstorming. Participants write their ideas on special on special forms or cards that circulate within the group. Gordon Method Method for developing new ideas when the individuals are unaware of the problem. Solutions are not clouded by preconceived ides and behavioral patterns.
Checklist Method Method for developing new ideas when the individuals are unaware of the problem. The entrepreneur uses a list of question or statement to guide the direction of developing entirely new ideas or focusing on specific idea areas. Free Association Method of developing a new idea through a chain of word associations. The process involve a word or phrase relating to the problem being written down, then another and another, with each new word attempting to add a new idea to the on going thought processes, finally creating a chain of idea ending with the new product idea merging
Forced Relationship Developing a new idea by locking at product combinations. A five step process which focuses on generating ideas from relationship patterns between elements of a problem. Following five step process given below: Isolation of element of the problem Establish relationships between these elements. Record the relationships in an orderly manner. Analyze the emerging relationship to find ideas or pattern. Develop new idea from these patterns.
Collective Notebook Method Developing a new idea by group members regularly recording ideas. A small notebook that easily fits in a pocket containing a statement of the problem, blank pages and any pertinent background data is distributed to participants. Attribute Listing Developing a new idea by focusing on parameter identification and creative synthesis. Attribute listing is an idea-generating technique that requires entrepreneurs to list the attributes of an item or problem and then look at each from different perspectives.
