METHODS OF INDEXING Batch No :- 00 9

MILLING: - Milling is the process of removing extra material from the Work piece with a rotating multipoint cutting tool ,which is a milling cutter. INDEXING:- Indexing is the operation dividing the periphery of the Work piece into any number of equal divisions by using indexing head. METHODS OF INDEXING:- Direct indexing Simple indexing Compound indexing Differential indexing Angular indexing

Simple or plane indexing More Accurate Permits divisions of work piece into more no of parts 1 turn of the crank rotates the work piece by 1/40 of revolution

Brown and S harpe Heads No.1 plate has 15,16,17,18,19,20, holes No.2 plate has 21,23,27,29,31,33, holes No.3 plate has 37,39,41,43,47,49 holes Cincinnati and P arkinson Head different series of holes are provided on each side One side 24,25,28, 30,34,37,38,39,41,42,43. holes Other side 46,47,49,51,53,54,57,58,59,62,66. holes

Hole Circle Plate

Rule for Simple indexing index crank movement =40/N Calculating indexing for 35 divisions The index crank movement =40/35 =1(5/35) = 1(1/7) =1 (3/21) Thus for indexing the crank has to move one complete turn and 3 holes in 21 hole circle of the index plate

Compound indexing

Actual indexing fraction 40/91=(a/39+b/49) 40/(13 X 7) =(a/13 X 3) + (b/7 X 7) (40 X 21) =(49a+39b)/(13 X 3 X 7 X 7) 840 = 49a +39b a=6 and b=14 Crank rotates through 6 holes on a 39 hole circle Index plate and the crank together rotate through 14 holes on a 49 hole circle in the same direction…..
