MILEAGE PRINCIPLES

MAXIMUM PERMITTED MILEAGE In the Fare component the Maximum Permitted Mileage (MPM) is the first factor of mileage principle. MPM is basically the distance in miles which the passenger can travel in the air between the origin and destination point. There is no need to calculate the MPM with the help of calculator as usually it becomes the 120 per cent of the Shortest Operated Mileage of that system, it is already published in PAT as well as in Maximum Permitted Mileages book. For the calculation of MPM it is important to find out the Global Indicator for the routing between origin and destination.

TICKETED POINT MILEAGE - TPM It is the actual number of miles that are used for constructing an Itinerary between two points or cities. TPM can be greater, less or equal to MPM since TPM is the actual miles that are used for constructing a particular itinerary.

EXTRA MILEAGE ALLOWANCE Extra Mileage Allowance (EMA) is a Ticketed Pointed Mileage deduction or published bonus mileage that is deducted from the total TPM. Extra mileage allowance is a grace allowance in mileage which is permitted when traveling via a certain city (point).

EXCESS MILEAGE SURCHARGE Excess Mileage Surcharge (EMS) comes in light when applicable EMA cannot be found in the table or it is not enough to lower the TPM. In that case TPM still exceeds the MPM and it becomes necessary to levy a surcharge. These surcharges vary from 5 per cent to 25 per cent.
