MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT
GOALS (MDGs)
The millennium development goals are a set of
eight goals agreed by world leaders in 2000.
The eight MDGs range from halving extreme
poverty rates to promoting gender equality and
providing universal primary education.

ACTIVITIES IN MDGs
END POVERTY
I. By 2030, eradicate extreme poverty for all
people everywhere currently measured as
people living on less than dollar 1.25 a day.
II. By 2030, reduce at least by half the
proportion of men, women & children of all
ages living in poverty in all its dimensions
according to national definitions
III. Implement nationally appropriate social
protection systems and measures for all,
including floors, and by 2030 achieve
substantial coverage of the poor and the
vulnerable
IV. By 2030, build the resilience of the poor and
those in vulnerable situations, and reduce
their exposure and vulnerability to climate-

related extreme events & other economic,
social & environmental shocks & disasters.
V. Ensure significant mobilization of resources
from a variety of sources, including through
enhanced development cooperation to
provide adequate and predictable means
for developing countries to implement

its dimensions.
VI. Create and sound policy framework, at
national, regional and international levels,
based on pro-poor and gender-sensitive
development strategies to support
accelerated investments in poverty

END HUNGER
I. By 2030 end hunger & ensure access by all
people , in particularly the poor and people
in vulnerable situations including infants, to
safe, nutritious & sufficient food all year
round.
II. By 2030 end all forms of malnutrition,
including achieving by 2025 the
internationally agreed targets on stunting
and wasting in children under five years of
age, and address the nutritional needs of
adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating
women, and older persons.

PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND
EMPOWER WOMEN
I. End all forms of discrimination against all
women & girls everywhere
II. Eliminate all forms of violence against women
and girls in public and private spheres, including
trafficking and sexual and other types of
exploitation
III. Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child,
early and forced marriage and female genital
mutilations
IV. Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic
work through the provision of public services,
infrastructure and social protection policies,
and promotion of shared responsibility within
the household and the family as nationally.
V. Enhance women’s full and effective
participation and equal opportunities for
leadership at all levels of decision making in
political, economic, and public life.
VI. Enhance the use of enabling technologies, in
particular ICT, to promote women’s
empowerment

COMBAT HIV/AIDS, MALARIA & OTHER
DISEASES
According to the statistics, there are 34.3 M
people living with HIV/AIDS in 1999 & 2.8 M
people died from HIV related illnesses in 1999.
problem with HIV virus is, it knocks down the
human immune system.so thereafter
opportunistic pathogens & infections will claim
the life of the person. most of the people die
due tuberculosis Infection comes after HIV.
In 2018, there were estimated malaria cases
around 228 M. also 405,000 deaths in 2018
reported in worldwide. this disease mostly
spread in topical region in the world.
EVALUATION
HIV prevalence among pregnant women aged
15-24 years.
Condom use rate of the contraceptive
prevalence rate.

IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH
This is mainly focused on maternal mortality. Most
of the deaths happen during or after parturition due
to bleeding.so most essential thing in parturition
proses is attendance of skilled health personnel like
doctor or nurse. according to data published by
UNICEF, 2000 MMR was 342 deaths per 100,000
live births. there were two main targets; between
1990 & 2015, reduce the MMR by three-quarters
and achieve universal access to reproductive health
by 2015.

ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL
SUSTAINABILITY
By 2030 achieve sustainable management
and efficient use of natural resources
By 2030 halve per capita global food waste
at the retail & consumer, and reduce food
loses along production and supply chains
including post-harvest losses
By 2030, sustainability reduce waste
generation through prevention, reduction,
recycling, and reuse.
Encourage companies, especially large
trans-national companies to adopt
sustainable practices and to integrate
sustainability information into their
repoting cycle.

are sustainable in accordance with national
policies and priorities.

REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY
It is the death of children under 5 years of age
in 1990, 12.6 M children under five died.in
African region the number is significantly high.
however target is, reduce by 2/3, between
1990 and 2015, the under 5 mortality rate.
Progress has been evaluated using,
Infant mortality rate
Under five year mortality rate
Proportion of one year old children
immunized against measles.

ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY
EDUCATION
UNICEF data-analysis shows that in 2010, 90% of
the primary school age children have been
participated in school. The target here is, by 2015;
ensure all children will be able to complete a full
course of primary schooling.

DEVELOPMENT
Most of the countries in the world are under developed
or developing countries with the help of other developed
or economically strong countries, under developed
countries can achieve their developmental goals well.

non-discriminatory trading and financial system
Address the special needs of small island developing
countries
Deal exhaustively with the debt problems of
developing nations
Provide access to affordable essential drugs in the
developing world in collaboration with
pharmaceutical companies.
