INTRODUCTION Minerals are naturally existing inorganic solid substance with definite physical and chemical properties Minerals are non-renewable and depleting day-by-day Main economic minerals include copper, gold, iron, led and salt. Industries use minerals to make countless products The use of minerals have increased throughout the world But the proved reserves of the minerals as copper, led nickel, and zinc may be depleted within 100 years.

Deposits are unevenly distributed around the world. The need for the minerals continue to influence international relations today. Many countries must import large amounts of various minerals.US for example imports more than half of its chromium, cobalt, manganese, nickel, platinum, fluorine and tin. Mining destroys the scenic lands and habitats for animals and plants. It can also pollute air and water The mineral resources are non- renewable in nature and it is depleting day –by-day. The increased use and exploitation of the available resources has increased the rate of depletion over the years. This is where the term CONSERVATION get its importance.

MINERAL CONSERVATION The conservation of minerals can be done in many ways. They include: Use of mineral in planned and sustainable manner Use of alternate source of energy like solar energy ,hydroelectric energy, wind energy etc Walking on a path leading to sustainable development Using the mineral resources with great efficiency. Use of renewable sources of energy Avoid the over exploitation of minerals

Use of bio-gas as a fuel for cooking instead of non-renewable source of energy Reuse and recycle the mineral and their products Use of alternate renewable substitutes Technology should be improved to use the low grade ores profitably Intelligent management of existing resources Miners should be trained with new methods of mining using latest technology and machines and takes maximum precaution to cause little damage to the environment

In conservation policy emphasis should be on sustainable mining. More reliance should be placed on exploitation and utilization of such mineral resource which are renewable and are in plenty Researches should be carried to develop the new technology which should avoid wastage and promote maximum utilization of by-products

CONCLUSION The minerals are non-renewable resources The mineral resources are the main capital for many contries The renewable resources are depleting day-by-day due to the over usage , wastage , and exploitation Varied methods can be adopted to prevent this situation
