Definition of MIS MIS : Management Information System - collect, process, store & distribution of Information. MIS is a computer based information system which is basically concerned with processing data into information with the tools to organize, evaluate and effectively manage departments within an organization. It is a study of how managers use technology to control information within an organization. Ex – HRMS.

Definition of MIS MIS Management Information Systems

Objectives of MIS Data Capturing 01 Data Processing 02 Storage of Information 03 Retrieval of Information 04 Dissemination of Information 05

Structure of MIS

Characteristics of MIS

Characteristics of MIS System Approach : The information system follows a System’s approach. The system’s approach implies a holistic approach to the study of system and its performance in the light for the objective for which it has been constituted. Management Oriented : The top-down approach must be followed while designing the MIS. The top-down approach suggests that the system development starts from the determination of management needs and overall business objectives.

Characteristics of MIS Needed Based : MIS design and development should be as per the information needs of managers at different levels, strategic planning level, management control level and operational control level.  Exception Based : MIS should be developed on the exception-based reporting principle, which means an abnormal situation, i.e. the maximum; minimum or expected values vary beyond tolerance limits. In such situations, there should BE exception reporting to the decision-maker at the required level.

Characteristics of MIS Future Oriented : Besides exception-based reporting, MIS should also look at the future. In other words, MIS should not merely provide past or historical information; rather it should provide information, on the basis of projections based on which actions may be initiated. Integration : Integration is a necessary characteristic of a management information system. Integration is significant because of its ability to produce more meaningful information.

Characteristics of MIS Long Term Planning : MIS is developed over relatively long periods. Such a system does not develop overnight. A heavy element of planning is involved. The MIS designer must have the future objectives and needs of the company in mind. Sub-System Concept : The process of MIS development is quite complex and one is likely to lose insight frequently. Thus, the system, though viewed as a single entity, must be broken down into digestible sub-systems which are more meaningful at the planning stage.

MIS Terminologies Process Control : Gather data to create reports based on the performance of the systems & processes. Inventory Control : Allow tracking the current inventory state within a department or the company. Executive Information System : Report company data to top level management directly in an easy to read format. Accounting & Finance Systems : Track & process a company’s assets & investments that is related to accounting and finance.

MIS Terminologies HR systems : Allows control of organizational information circulating within the company and oversees tasks like recruitment and daily administration, ensuring all employees comply with company standards. Expert system : Use of artificial intelligence to stimulate the judgment and behavior of a person or organization with expertise and experience in a specific field.

Contemporary Breakthrough Tech. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning : Simulation of Human intelligence in machine to perform task is known as artificial intelligence. Machine Learning is a subset of AI that learns form its data to improve its performance. - Predictive Analysis - Customer Engagement Internet of Things ( IoT ) : It is a network of Interconnected devices, sensors and systems that communicate and exchange data. - Real time data collection - Improved supply chain management

Contemporary Breakthrough Tech. 3. Block chain : It is a decentralization and distributed ledger technology that securely records and verify transaction across multiple computers. Basically it records information in a way that it is impossible to change or hack the system. - Smart Contracts - Increased security and trust in business 4. 5G & Advance Connectivity : The fifth-generation mobile network, promises to revolutionize connectivity with significantly faster data transfer speeds compared to its predecessors. With peak speeds up to 100 times faster than 4G, 5G enables faster download and upload times, lower latency, and increased network capacity.

Contemporary Breakthrough Tech. 5. Quantum Computing : Quantum computing represents a paradigm shift in the field of computing, harnessing the principles of quantum mechanics to process information in fundamentally different ways than traditional computers. While classical computers use bits to represent information as either 0s or 1s, quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits , which can exist in multiple states simultaneously. - Security advancement - Potential for complex problem solving

Contemporary Breakthrough Tech. 6 . Cloud Computing : Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without direct active management by the user. The technology enables its users to work remotely using the internet from a network cloud. - Backup and Recovery - Online Data Storage

Contemporary Breakthrough Tech. 7. Artificial Intelligence & Augmented Reality : Virtual reality (VR) is a technology that allows the user to interact in a computer-simulated recreation of a real environment. Augmented reality (AR) is a fusion of VR where reality and a computer-simulated environment are merged, which we have seen for example with Pokemon Go or with lenses in Snapchat . - Immersive Training & Simulation - Enhance Customer Experience

Contemporary Breakthrough Tech. 8. Robotics and Automation : Robotics is a branch of engineering and computer science that involves the conception, design, manufacture and operation of robots. Robotics and automation have been transforming the manufacturing industry for decades, leading to increased efficiency, productivity, and cost savings. Warehouse & Logistics improvement Cobots for increasing efficiency

Contemporary Breakthrough Tech. 9. Generative AI : Generative AI, a cutting-edge technology, has revolutionized various industries by enabling machines to create content that resembles human-generated work. It encompasses a wide range of applications, from text generation to image synthesis and even music composition. Generating contents for Content Creator Valuable Insights from data
