A Project Of The World Bank Essay
The World Bank Group has set two goals for the world to achieve by 2030: To end extreme poverty by
decreasing the percentage of people living on less than $1.90 a day to no more than 3% and to
promote shared prosperity by fostering the income growth of the bottom 40% for every country, which
the organization is trying to achieve via low interest loans, zero to low interest credits, and grants to
developing countries ( What We Do, n.d.). The World Bank s moto is Working for a World Free of
Poverty with the caveat of do no harm ; however, what is left in their wake in many cases is
heartbreak and devastation. My task with this paper is to address a project of the World Bank in
Nigeria that created problems for the nation, and especially the people therein, that received its
assistance.
If you love your life, move out! the officers shouted (Chavkin, Hallman, Hudson, Schilis Gallego,
Shifflett, 2015). These are the only kind words these 9,000 residents will hear as they carry what
belongings they can away from their homes ( Nigeria, 2014). I speak of the tragedy of Badia East, a
slum within Lagos, Nigeria. The state government chose to clear the area for an urban renewal zone
financed by the World Bank (Chavkin et al., 2015). These people were thrown into the elements with
no food, shelter, or any plan for the future. In my research I found an article by Huffington Post
written by Sasha Chavkin, Ben Hallman, Michael Hudson, Cécile Schilis Gallego and Shane Shifflett

Sydney s Northern Beaches Case Study
Introduction An increase in population and subsequent urbanisation of Sydney s Northern Beaches has
put growing pressure on the surrounding coastal ecosystems. The Manly Dam catchment area
encompasses 375 hectares of urban and industrial areas, waterways, bushland and parks (Fig. 1C).
This catchment is home to a vast number of native flora and fauna, and is a hub for recreational
activity. Preserving the ecological state of this catchment area involves developing and maintaining an
effective management strategy. Catchment Condition The overall condition of the Manly Dam
catchment area is affected by a number of factors. A growing population and resultant urbanisation has
led to excessive runoff rates across the region. This increase in ... Show more content on

A discharge of leachate and other pollutants could potentially affect the groundwater quality of the
entire area (Ginns Wright, 2014). Algal bloom outbreaks have also affected the water quality. Periodic
water quality management of all waterways within the catchment should be continued to monitor
sediment and leachate values. Encourage further bush regeneration to limit run off linked to an
increase in algal blooms. It is also worth noting that a large propeller is already in place to oxygenate

Why Is It Important For Children
Why Is It Important For Children to Have Opportunities For Play? (D1)
Play is engaging in activities for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose
(Oxford Dictionary, 2015). It s important for children to have opportunities to play because children
have a natural curiosity to discover and explore and this is done through play. Play is a biological,
psychological and social necessity, it s fundamental to the healthy development, learning and well
being of a child (Play England, 2014).
It s important for children to have opportunities to play because play supports children s learning;
through play children practise new ideas and skills, take risks, show imagination and solve problems

The Characteristics of an Enabling Environment That Supports Children s Learning and Development.
(D2)
An enabling environment is an environment that supports and promotes children s learning and
development while meeting children s individual needs, including physical, social, cultural, indoor
and outdoor environments. The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children s
development and learning (Early Years Matters, 2015). There are many benefits for children in an

The Pros And Cons Of ADR

2. Preponderance of evidence standard
The preponderance of the evidence is a standard of evidence, or standard of proof, used in civil trials.
Civil trials are cases which involve questions that are not criminal in nature. In other words, in a civil
trial, you are seeking to resolve an issue of liability for wrongdoing. For instance, you may be seeking

Why is ADR become so popular in business disputes? Be sure to explain the major types of ADR and
the pros and cons of ADR versus traditional judicial resolution to civil disputes.
A common method of dispute resolution that avoids many of the challenges associated with litigation
is alternative dispute resolution. Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is a term that encompasses
many different methods of dispute resolution other than litigation. ADR involves resolving disputes
outside of the judicial process, though the judiciary can require parties to participate in specific types
of ADR, such as arbitration, for some types of conflicts. Moreover, some ADR methods vest power to
resolve the dispute in a neutral party, while other strategies vest that power in the parties themselves.
In a negotiation, there is no neutral party charged with ensuring that rules are followed, that the
negotiation strategy is fair, or that the overall outcome is sound. Moreover, any party can walk away
whenever it wishes. There is no guarantee of resolution through this method. The result may not be
win win or win lose, but no resolution at all. Also, generally speaking, attorneys are not involved in
many negotiations. This last point may be seen as a drawback or a benefit, depending on the
circumstances of the

Cheerleading Argumentative Essay
That is not what cheerleading is, that s just what they have the children do because it requires a lot of
skill to be able to do it. Which is another one of the requirements to be considered a sport, needing to
have a skill. Cheering has many techniques that people need to know when they decide that they are
going to cheer competitively. Skills are something that people have to practice repeatedly so that
nobody gets hurt, or at least in this case that is what the skills would be used for. Cheerleading is done
within a group of women or men, and it can be done for the audience s benefit, to root on another
sports team, or it could be for a competition. But no matter what way you look at it cheering is done

Sutter s Let Us Now Praise Famous Gullies
Sutter also wrote in his book, Let Us Now Praise Famous Gullies, that the burden of southern
environmental history, then, has been to reintroduce the environment as a casual force while avoiding
the determinisms of the past. In short, Sutter is presenting perhaps the biggest problem within
environmental history which is environmental determinism. Environmental determinism meaning the
idea that this environment is predisposed to act a certain way regardless and there was no way to avoid
it. Sutter avoids this way of thinking in his own book, by explaining that Providence Canyon may not
have been created if it were not for human interaction with the soil. Even so, humans are not the only
player involved in the canyons creation, one must also account for the poor soil in Georgia to get the

Anderson also discusses the role and influence these animals had on social issues between Native

Kevlar Leather Jacket Pros And Cons
Introduction
In the decades since I first climbed on top of a motorcycle, I have seen a lot of changes. Riding
partners have come and gone, laws have evolved, and the public s perception of bikers has, thankfully,
improved. The biking community is in a state of perpetual change, just like the world around it, but
one thing remains constant: leather jackets. Both stylish and secure, leather has been relied upon by
bikers throughout history to keep them safe from the elements and protect them during falls and
crashes.
The leather jacket is as synonymous with motorcycles as two wheels and an engine, but an increasing
number of bikers are leaving behind their leather jackets in favor of alternatives of a different material,
such as mesh or Kevlar. Some readers may be unfamiliar with the latter, which hasn t received as
much publicity as some other protective materials, but if Kevlar motorcycle jackets can gain global
attention, it is quite possible they can dethrone their leather opponents.
But what exactly does a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leather jackets tend to offer very poor ventilation, even when they are fitted with mesh vents. If you
live in a cold climate, this likely won t be a problem, but those who attempt to ride in a leather
motorcycle jacket during warmer months will be putting themselves at risk of heat stroke.
Cruel
As the world becomes increasingly more mindful, the cruelty associated with leather jackets becomes
a bigger and bigger problem. Leather, as most of us know but do our best to ignore, is made from the
skin of animals, most commonly cows. Killing animals for the sake of clothing is, admittedly, pretty
horrendous, and many animal loving bikers have moved on to textile motorcycle jackets while
actively campaigning against leather protective equipment.

Essay about Heart of Darkness
The Real Heart Of Darkness
Heart of Darkness is not only the title of Joseph Conrad s novella, it is also a main theme. This is
portrayed through different images of darkness, black and evil throughout his story. The setting is
often used with images of darkness; even as Marlow tells his tale, it is night. This darkness is inside
many concepts of the novella such as Africa, women, black people, maps, the ivory trade corporation
and Kurtz. Through these images on his journey, Marlow has a realization about the inner darkness of
man, and thus brings out the theme, and title, Heart Of Darkness.
At the time, the Europeans often referred to Africa as the Dark Continent . This is the main setting of
Marlow s story and his destination is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The journey he takes down the river into Africa is symbolic of a journey into ones soul, to the center
of darkness in mans heart. The darkness of the soul becomes more and more apparent to Marlow as
the crew goes deeper into Africa. This is because they start to feel more isolated and Marlow has the
opportunity to see a clear vision of himself.
As Marlow begins to realize the darkness within man s soul, he feels that women are too weak to face
this world he sees. They the women, I mean are out of it should be out of it. We must help them to stay
in that beautiful world of their own, lest ours gets worse. (p.376) Marlow feels that the women should
not be allowed to see the darkness, as they are too weak and fragile to face the truth, and he believes
they should continue to live in their own world. Marlow even lies to Kurtz s Intended, telling her the
last thing Kurtz said was her name, because the real truth was to dark to tell.
However, women are not the only people in this novella used to symbolize darkness; black people are
also exercised as an image of darkness. Conrad uses the darkness of their skin in comparison to the
white people s skin. Darkness is used to represent barbarism, savages and evil while white represents
all that is good. This black and white comparison also becomes apparent when the white string on a
black person is pointed out in detail, He had tied a bit of white worsted round his neck Why? Where
did he get it? Was it a

To What Extent Did The British Colonies Acquired Self Rule
Maria Buck 06/26/2015 Instructor: Brett Williamson Class: U.S. History to 1877 (HIS151P01P10615)
British colonies acquired self rule from the beginning starting with the Puritans. Spanish colonies were
suppressed by the Catholic Church and they instituted slavery. Colonist settled British North American
for many reasons. Some traveled for profits; others came to venturing or in investment of stock
companies. But, the reason for coming are the type of colony, when the colony and when the English
settler arrived they came in encountered with the natives population, Spanish and the French
settlements. African slavery changed the new worlds demographic in the early 1600 s. During the late
seventeenth century, religion gave the Puritans the opportunity to begin a new life, achieve social
class, gain respect in the colonies, and have individual morality. Others came to America for religious
freedom, but most came for simple economic reasons. In America there was land to be had and
fortunes to be made. The colonists brought English government with them along with their pigs and

Tort Law Of Negligence In Nursing Care
A tort law is a collection of rights, obligations and remedies used by courts in civil procedures that
provide relief to victims of legal, economic or physical harm. The tort of negligence is civil wrongs
brought by one s failure to exercise care against risks known to cause potential harm. It involves three
elements of duty of care, breach of duty, and resultant damage (McDonald, 2014). First on all, the
duty of care is the obligation to avoid acts or omissions, which are reasonably foreseeable to cause
damage to another. The breach of duty means failure to exercise proper care. The health professionals

The Notorious Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County Essay
Mark Twain was a celebrated writer during his lifetime and is still today long past his death. One of
Twain s famous works titled, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County is a prime example of
local color writing done during the 19th century. Twain s novel shows the average person what life
and the people in rural America are like. The story takes place in a gold mining camp in Calaveras
County, California during the 1850s. Out west was still very rural and full of many different types of
characters. Additionally, most people who lived out there had an accent and verbage similar to that of
the modern day southern United States. The characters themselves show the type of place Calaveras
county was, with the main character Smiley being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, the person who ends up beating is a man from out of town but still from the area. These
characters are small town folk, and close to one another they go so far as to know most each other by
name and reputation. The dialogue also shows how this story is a great example of local color. The
characters have quite an accent that at times can be hard to read and understand. An example of the
local accent through the stranger is I don t see no p ints about that frog that s any better n any other
frog (104). A more educated person would have more coherent and well put together sentence than
what the stranger uttered. Many characters in the story have accents similar to the strangers and this
really shows the difference between the world and the southern United States. The story itself uses
irony in the form of dramatic irony as we know that the stranger fills Smiley s frog with buckshot
making it unable to jump while Smiley is none the wise until after. Additionally, the style of humor is
very American. Twain wrote in another story that humor that is subtle and not thrown in the face of the
listener or reader is truly american in

Competition Within The U.s. Pharmaceutical Industry
Competition within the U.S. pharmaceutical industry is very high. With less elastic demand than for
other industries, profit potential is enormous. Demand is more inelastic as prescription drugs are
necessary for many individuals with illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Within the
industry, there are two types of manufacturers: brand name and generic. These groups compete not
only among one another, but with each other as well. Brand name pharmaceutical companies often try
to, and succeed in preventing or delaying approval and circulation of generic equivalents. The most
common tactic used is a reverse payment settlement agreement, otherwise known as pay for delay .
Generic firms promise to delay the circulation of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, generic companies primary activities include developing, producing, marketing,
distributing, and gaining regulatory approval for generic drugs (Philips, 2014). While generic
companies do engage in research and development (R D), it s goal is to create similar drugs that the
brand name manufacturer just patented. If successful, the generic company files an Abbreviated New
Drug Application (ANDA) for approval and must make a certification against each patent by the brand
name manufacturer. To do this, the generic company must make a Paragraph IV certification which
states that the patent is invalid or will not be infringed by the generic product (Fitzpatrick, Cella,
Harper Scinto, 2012). In a reverse payment settlement agreement, brand name pharmaceutical
manufacturers provide compensation to generic pharmaceutical manufacturers in order to settle the
challenge to their patent. In order to receive the compensation, the generic company must agree to
drop its patent challenge and is restricted from marketing and distributing its product for some stated
period of time. These settlements act as patent extensions, providing the brand name firm with more
monopoly time on a drug. Reverse payment settlement agreements appeared as an unexpected result
of the Hatch Waxman Act of 1984, which

Video Games Are More Than Half Of The 50 Top Selling Games
Daniel Molina
Kathryn Harrington
ENG. 122
December
Research paper
As many as 97% of US kids age 12 17 play video games, more than half of the 50 top selling video
games contain violence. On April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School in jefferson county colorado,
two students and video game fanatics, Eric David Harris, age 18, and Dylan Bennet Klebold, age 17,
executed a planned shooting rampage killing 12 other students and a teacher.
Researcher and psychiatrist Jerald Block has concluded that Harris and Klebold went on their shooting
rampage at Columbine High School after their parents took away their video games, Block argued that
they both relied on the virtual world of computer games to express their rage and to spend time, and
cutting them off in 1998 sent them into crisis. many other massacres have been committed by video
game addicts for example Adam Lanza in Sandy Hook Elementary, he was a incessant player of
violent first person shooter video games, james holmes as well committed the aurora colorado
shooting and he too was a frequent player of violent video games.
Child exposure to violent video games is significantly linked to increases in violent behavior ,
desensitization and unruly cognition. The excessive amount of time spent on videogames that are
filled with brutality and violent interactions lead to short and long term effects on children after they
finish playing the games. Whether violent video games are played in gaming consoles or

How Religion Has Influenced The Life Of A Nun
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another? (Jn
13:35)What is a committed religious life for being a Catholic sister or nun. Catholic sister and nuns
have a different variation of lifestyle, ministries and callings. All community has its own peculiar
identity and flavor, this is because there are no two association, as there is no two nuns that are the
same. As we watch movies about nuns we sometimes predict sisters and nuns to be living a highly
ordered life which is unchanging in structure which is repetitive in context. But the truth is that there
may be some regular customs and practices, a day in Catholic sister and nun life as it is diverse,
especially as the Holy Spirit is in charge.
As a day in a life of nuns are constructed around service within the chapel because by joining a
convent or nunnery, nuns have to make a choice to devote their life to God. Religion has influenced
the life of a nun. A lot of convents do have its own particular daily timetable for a nun as many do the
following similarly:
the first day of services 02.00: Matins Laud
After Matins Laud, nuns would go back to bed and would get up again at first light. She then would

The Grand Budapest Hotel, By Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson has done it again with his new film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. True to the style of
Anderson movies, The Grand Budapest Hotel is filled with gorgeous color schemes, witty lines,
impeccable scoring, and perfectly symmetrical frames. We even get glimpses of the usual crew that act
in the Anderson franchise, including Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, and Bill Murray. Shot in a 1930 s
style movie frame, the story starts out on a snowy white scene in a small European town. A girl walks
to a memorial of a man, sits down by his statue and opens up a book. A voice over then begins, as well
as the main story, which is composed in a flashback recounted by an author (Tom Wilkinson). The
flashback depicts the author traveling to The Grand Budapest Hotel in hopes of curing his writer s
block. There, in the slow crumbling of the hotel, he meets M. Moustafa, the proprietor of the Grand
Budapest. The rest is history, literally. The main part of the movie takes place in a war ravaged
Zabrowka, with communists in control and the Grand Budapest Hotel struggling to keep its usual

What Makes A Beautiful Machine
A beautiful, magnificent machine I use to this year of 2015 known as the cellular device holds every
speck of my information and life in a box that fits in the palm of my hand. If this minuscule box is
broken some people will replace this box before putting food on the table. Humans have become as
one with technology as we rely on our electrically charged device to be no further than a hand reach
out of one s sight. As of 2015 my technological world consists of entertainment, connections, and
utilities.
Now there are plenty of distractions out there in the world. Humans love to call it entertainment.
Music and films are the biggest of all, making industries billions every year. These industries strive to
achieve the greatest amount of audience. How you ask, quite simply. People gather around making up
stories for songs and films each of which has their own genre. These people love to express their
emotions through other actors and actresses that perform the imaginary acts in the director s mind. A
film is produced and people gather in theaters to watch. Another type of entertainment comes from
songs where people express their emotions through their vocal cords. Technology allows this
expression of emotions to take a whole new dimensional path leading to the creation of music videos
and music. Humans virtually gather to listen and watch the music and dance moves.
None of the music videos or films could be produced without cameras and video tape recorders. These
devices

Miriam Ferguson Research Paper
Miriam Amanda Wallace Ma Ferguson (1875 1961), first woman governor of Texas, daughter of
Joseph L. and Eliza (Garrison) Wallace, was born in Bell County, Texas, on June 13, 1875. She went
to Salado College and Baylor Female College at Belton. In 1899, at the age of 24, she married James
Edward Ferguson, as well of Bell County. Mrs. Ferguson served as the first lady of Texas during the
gubernatorial terms of her husband (1915 17), who was challenged during his 2nd administration.
When James Ferguson failed to get his name on the ballot in 1924, Miriam entered the race for the
Texas governorship. Before announcing for office, she had committed her energies mostly to her
husband and two daughters. This fact, and the mixture of her first and ... Show more content on

However, after the Texas Supreme Court again rejected her husband s petition to place his name on the
ballot in 1930, she entered the gubernatorial race. In the May primary she led Ross Sterling, who then
defeated her in the August runoff. Her defeat proved fortuitous politically because Sterling, rather than
she, was blamed by the voters when Texas began to feel the full impact of the Great Depression. In
February 1932 she again declared for the governorship; she promised to lower taxes and cut state
expenditures, and condemned alleged waste, graft, and political favoritism by the Sterling controlled
highway commission. After leading Sterling in the May primary by over one hundred thousand votes,
Ma Ferguson barely won the Democratic nomination in the August primary. She then defeated the
Republican nominee, Orville Bullington, in November to secure her 2nd term as governor. Her second
administration did not engender as much controversy as the first, despite dire predictions to the
contrary by her political opponents. The fiscally conservative governor held the line on state
expenditures and even advocated a state sales tax and corporate income tax, although the state
legislature did not act on these proposals. Mrs. Ferguson continued her liberal pardoning and parole
policies, but even that action did not stir as much controversy as in her first administration since every

People Face Trade-Offs
People deal with plenty of choices in their everyday lives. At the moment we open our eyes, we have
to make decisions. For instance, should we get up and prepare ourselves for a new day, or should we
continue resting in our beds? Even after when we have made this decision, we will still face choices
after choices. However, we cannot get all the things we want as according to Mankiw, scarcity exists
in our society. In other words, scarcity means that society has limited resources and therefore cannot
produce all the goods and services people wish to have. To get one thing that we like, we usually have
to give up other things that we like. Making decisions require trading off one goal against another.
This phenomenon is also called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the trade offs that I faced before in my life is when I had to make a decision about what I want
to do after high school. If I chose to further my studies, that means I would have to give up the chance
to earn money and gain working experiences. When I made up my mind to continue studying, I
hesitated about which university to choose because there are too many choices. For example, if I had
chosen to study at local university, I would have lost the opportunity to experience the university life
in foreign country. Contrarily, if I had chosen to study abroad, there would have been a bigger
financial burden for my family. I had to make the wisest decision as it affects my future. When
government makes public policies, they have to consider between equality and efficiency. I have
noticed that our government imposes price ceiling on some necessities such as eggs and bread. This
may improve the equality, as everyone can buy eggs at the same price. However, it is inefficient
because suppliers would produce less eggs since they cannot get a higher price. In this case, they have
to ration limited resources to produce the right number of eggs. Nevertheless, I agree with Mankiw
that recognizing that people face trade offs does not by itself tell us what decisions they will or should
make (p.5). In conclusion, there is not no such thing as a free lunch , I believe that life is all about
trade offs. By

industry. Walter Shewart developed his first statistical theory about quality control. He made his first
sketch of a modern control chart, which is later on, developed by Deming in the 1940 s. It was the first
time when this statistical theory began to be applied to manufacturing process. However there was
little use of these techniques till the beginning of 1950 s.
By the last midcentury, the demand of quality control was highly increasing due to the raise of mass
production. The techniques of the quality control became strongly important and required during the
1940 s and 1950 s.
At the same time, Japanese people recognized the importance of quality management. They started to
implement quality management practices in their industry by the 1950 s. A decade later, Japan started
to export products to USA and Europe which was cheaper and higher in quality, compared to western
products.

Consumers worldwide relied on Japanese products as higher quality and cheaper price comparing to
western products. North American considered japan as serious threat to their industry and realized the
magnitude of quality management. Figure 1 illustrates the difference between Japanese quality

Shintle Shingle Research Paper
Shingles (herpes zoster) is a rare and painful skin rash. Often, people who have had the chickenpox
virus or have even been vaccinated for chickenpox will get the rash later in life. According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about half of people who get shingles are men and
women 60 years old and older. Although, this is a doctor s statement, this is not necessarily true. My
mother was diagnosed with shingles in her left eye in 2015. She is 45 years old. Her doctor was
surprised due to the fact it is rare because of her age. The doctor also questioned her illness because
she caught the rash in a strange area. In rare cases like hers, shingles can affect the eye severely and
can cause loss of vision.

Bewitchment In Salem
It was a cold and average winter in our small village. In Salem Village, most of the inhabitants are
poor and live a hard life (Kallen 14). Our village is part of Salem Town, but the two are separated by
distance, class, and style (Kallen 14). Our village is small and pretty calm and simple. The children

Essay about Natural Equality and Civil Society
Natural Equality and Civil Society According to John Locke in his Second Treatise of Government ,
natural equality is an essential component of the state of nature; the state of nature being one of peace,
tranquility, and equality, where there is no common power guided by reason. However, the lack of
common power also supplies an inconvenience for the state of nature the aptitude to fall into a state of
war with no means to escape it. To avoid this inconvenience , Locke finds it a necessity to form civil
society ruled by a common authority of law. For a such government to preserve its legitimacy, the
transition into civil society must maintain some degree of equality. The origination of property, the

If all human beings are to use the earth to their best advantage and the earth is the common property of
all, someone somewhere will have conflicting interests with another human being over the possession
of some thing. The only remedy is to sacrifice his/her equality by consent (It is not likely that one
would surrender equality to another) OR to enter a state of war. The only protection against the state
of war in John Locke s opinion is to enter into civil society governed by a common authority. By
taking this measure, Locke insists humankind can better protect itself against war and preserve the
right to enjoy what one possesses, . . . because no political society can be, nor subsist, without having
in itself the power to preserve the property [pg. 18]. Entering civil society requires handing over one s
executive rights and submitting to a common authority by law. So, according to Locke s definition of
equality, giving up one s natural executive rights means natural equality is no longer truly existent.
Though we are all still born to the same advantages of nature , and we still share the same faculties ,
and we still do not gain the right to subordinate another human being, we consent to subordinate our
personal freedoms and liberties to a common law for our own welfare. By

All life is a game of power. The object of the game is simple enough: to know what you want and get

government has more to because the population has increased by 600 percent over the past 100 years.
More rules and regulations are needed to keep larger numbers of people living and working together

CalSTRS Defined Benefit Program is a conventional retirement plan calculated based on a formula
using the age, years of service/service credit, and final compensation. The coverage is on CalSTRS

Chemical Substances And Its Effects On The Skin Essay
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain one or
more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes
are also intended for application to oral cavity or mucous membranes besides the skin. Pastes are
usually prepared from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing
homogeneously powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for
Pharmaceutical Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy
pastes which is made from single phase aqueous gel.
Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences between
paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of finely
powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high
concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than
that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or
water soluble (glycerol or mucilage). (Prashant, 2010)
Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for
protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body
temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. Fatty pastes that have a high proportion of
hydrophilic solids

Analysis of Black Holes Essay
Black Holes: Warping Spacetime
A black hole is one of the most fantastic things ever predicted by modern science. It is a place where
gravity is so strong that nothing not even light can escape. It is a place where gravity is so strong that a
hole has been rent in the very fabric of space and time. Surrounding this yawning chasm is a horizon
in the geometry of space where time itself stands still. And inside this hole, beyond this horizon, the
directions of space and time are interchanged.
There are wormholes to other universes, time tunnels and time machines that would bring you back to
where you started before you left. There is antigravity beyond the hole s center. And around the hole,
there are regions where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neutrons, like electrons, also obey the Pauli exclusion principle(Kaufmann 51). Kaufmann states that,
There are no forces in nature that can support more than 2 1/2 solar masses of burned out stellar
material (63). If there were more than 2 1/2 solar masses, the entire star would implode being crushed
out of existence at a single point. During the implosion the gravitational fields become so great that
the fabric of space and time would fold over themselves. The star would disappear from our universe
leaving a black hole(Kaufmann 63).
We live in a four dimensional universe, three dimensions of space and one dimension of time. To tell
the exact location of an object you use four dimensions height, width, breadth, and time, altogether
called spacetime(Kaufmann 70 72). The central idea behind Einstein s general relativity is Matter tells
spacetime how to curve and curved spacetime tells matter how to behave (Kaufmann 70). In other
words, all matter has gravitational fields, gravity curves spacetime, and objects move on the shortest
path through curved spacetime. A beam of light passing near the surface of the sun is deflected from
its normal path because the space it traveled through is warped by the gravitational fields. Gravity
causes time to slow down. It is impossible to directly observe the slowing of time because ones

Essay On East Germany Health Care System
Health care systems around the world created in each nation to fit populations needs, also to fit the
financial capabilities of the nation and for the individuals. Many cultural, political, economic and even
religious factors contribute to create a unique health care system that have its own advantages and
disadvantages. A comparison between two health systems in two developed countries, United States
and Germany, will show how these industrialized nations created their health care systems and what is
the major benefits and hindrances in each system. Health care system in the United States is the result
of many improvements happened to health care legislations through the last century. Health care
system in the United States is not nationwide, Americans have the right to purchase health insurance
privately through third party, or through their employer. Government also provide health insurance to
certain groups of the population (ex: Medical and Medicare). Ridic, G., Gleason, S., and Ridic, O.
(2012) reported that more than 84% of the Americans are insured through public (one third of the
insured Americans) or private (two thirds of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
East Germany was controlled by the former Soviet Union. The health care system in East Germany
was following the communist legislations, while West Germany was following the western model of
health care system. After Berlin wall fall, a united health care system was established. This health care
system obligates all Germans to enroll into a health plan. Low income Germans who make less than
$35,000 a year are compelled to one of the Krankenkasse, or translated as Sickness funds. These funds
are provided by nonprofit companies that collect funds from employers and employees (Ridic et al.,
2012). Higher income Germans have to purchase health insurance through private

Civil Engineer Responsibilities
The responsibilities of professional civil engineers
1.0 Introduction
Civil engineers play a massive role in building society as we know it they are responsible for our
quality of life. Civil engineers plan, design, maintain and construct infrastructure such as railways,
dams and water systems. This report will touch upon a few of the important day to day responsibilities
that civil engineers face and highlight the importance of these responsibilities. This report will also
mention a few of the key attributes of being a professional civil engineer taken from the ICE (institute
of civil engineers). Other attributes that haven t been mentioned in the report include: a technical and
practical application of engineering, independent responsibilities and independent judgement,
professional commitment, interpersonal skills and communication and commercial ability.
2.0 Management and leadership
Management and leadership is a key attribute for being a civil engineer. Civil engineers face many
difficulties in their job which require advanced problem solving skills. This is Especially the case on
harder projects a lot of the time you will need help and ideas from your peers to get the work done and
also to check over the work once finished. Part of problem solving is working effectively with a team
around you and all working together and contributing to getting the job done. Another important part
of management is time keeping and making sure that everyone in your team is keeping to their
individual deadlines. A further skill to managing your team is to make sure everyone is on the right job
and everyone is clear on what it is they have to do. This also means making sure your team are
communicating sufficiently this is the key to your success as a leader. All these skills within
management and leadership are vital skills necessary for a professional civil engineer.
3.0 Health and safety
Health and safety is extremely important for civil engineers. There were 43 deaths in 2015/2016 from
the construction sector. Fortunately, the number of fatal injuries in the uk has decreased dramatically
in recent years but there is still an alarming number of injuries to workers. In 2015 the HSE (health
and safety executive) replaced

Indian Culture And How It Translates to America Essay
India is a captivating country full of humble traditions, lively festivals, and honest beliefs. With over 2
billion people, India has a vast array of religions and languages with Hindi being the most popular.
The Hindu culture is a culture of love, respect, honoring others and humbling one s own ego so that
the inner nature, which is naturally pure and modest, will shine forth (Mailerindia Infotek Limited).
Hindi is a kind and peaceful religion. It is only fitting to combine a temperate religion with a humble
society of people. Indians were raised to treat their elders with respect and to always be humble to
guests. Strangers will great you with the utmost benevolence and friends will invite you into their
home and make sure you are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patrons control their own temples and define what is considered proper (Henderson 30). This religion
is multifaceted and offers various ways to practice it yet many share the same basic beliefs.
There are always challenges when moving to a new country. Emigrants find that they not only have to
change their ways of living but they also have to find a way to continue to practice their beliefs in
their new home. I went to school here, became Americanized, Fazel says, explaining that in recent
years he had started to engage in haram (prohibited) activities such as partying (Williams, DePaul).
When you are young you are more susceptible to have leeway on your current beliefs while trying to
have a good time. Even things like clothing can be influenced when coming to a new country.
Conservative women in India make sure to cover themselves up completely before going out in
public. Most India women in America dress don t dress as modestly and the Indian dress code is put
aside. Indian children that have grown up in America may find it hard not to give in to American
ways. Most Indian American youth dress and act like Americans. And it is all of that which is put into
question and threated when immigrants leave one place for another (Marin 112). Nevertheless,
emigrants from India do attempt to stay true to their religion and they go to great lengths to practice
their religion. Worshipping is the most important part of Hindi culture

Don T Stop Believing By Journey Analysis
The song I chose was Don t Stop Believing by Journey. In the beginning of the song there is a piano
solo. The piano is being played in an andante tempo and the dynamic was piano (soft). After around
ten seconds of the piano playing, the lead singer, Arnel Pineda, begins to sing. Around forty seconds
into the song, and right after Pineda finishes the first cadence, you hear the guitar for one short note,
then it does not reappear after the line he took the midnight train going anywhere. The guitar is played
in very short spaced notes and crescendos. It was also being played in an allegro tone. Once again, the
guitar stops as the singing begins. As the singer begins to sing, he is only accompanied by the piano
until the line on and on and

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Abortion By Rabbi David Novak
To begin it is important to understand halakha which is the jewish law that governs the status of an
unborn fetus and whether or not abortion can occur. First off I will be discussing Rabbi David Novak
from University of Toronto s, short paper titled Abortion , in this article Rabbi David Novak takes a
neutral stance and states that there are two sides to the argument of abortion in Judaism. Rabbi David
Novak starts by stating that the most common belief in modern Judaism is as follows , On one side are
those who see the fetus as a human within a human (Sanhedrin 57b, re Genesis 9:6). On the other side
are those who regard the child as a human person only after it emerges from the womb (Rashi on
Sanhedrin 72b, re Ohalot 7.6); before that, it is simply a part of the mother s body. (Novak). ... Show

Traditionally, Jewish belief is considered to be a pro life stance, which is not to argue that a Jew must
actively support the pro life movement just that it is the basis of their core belief system. The problem
with Judaism identifying with pro choice though is that the pro choice movement is for the most part
based on Human ownership of the human body, an idea that directly contradicts the Jewish dogma that
everything belongs to God men s bodies, women s bodies, anyone s body (Ezekiel 18:4). (Novak).
Another issue with abortion in Judaism is that it gives significant legal and moral room to the mother
and those around her, allowing justification for abortion on a case by case basis as well as the fact that
rabbis have never regulated abortion within the Jewish population. In the Talmud it is said that that
only physically present infants are considered to be legal persons but there are only specific cases
where abortion or killing of the child is considered to be

States of Matter
States of matter are the distinct forms that different phases of matter take on. Historically, the
distinction is made based on qualitative differences in bulk properties. Solid is the state in which
matter maintains a fixed volume and shape; liquid is the state in which matter maintains a fixed
volume but adapts to the shape of its container; and gas is the state in which matter expands to occupy
whatever volume is available.
This diagram shows the nomenclature for the different phase transitions.
More recently, distinctions between states have been based on differences in molecular
interrelationships. Solid is the state in which intermolecular attractions keep the molecules in fixed
spatial relationships. Liquid is the state in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Solids can also change directly into gases through the process of sublimation.
[edit]Liquid
Main article: Liquid
Structure of a classical monatomic liquid. Atoms have many nearest neighbors in contact, yet no long
range order is present.

The volume is definite if the temperature and pressure are constant. When a solid is heated above its
melting point, it becomes liquid, given that the pressure is higher than the triple point of the substance.
Intermolecular (or interatomic or interionic) forces are still important, but the molecules have enough
energy to move relative to each other and the structure is mobile. This means that the shape of a liquid
is not definite but is determined by its container. The volume is usually greater than that of the
corresponding solid, the most well known exception being water, H2O. The highest temperature at
which a given liquid can exist is its critical temperature.[5]
[edit]Gas
Main article: Gas
In a gas, the molecules have enough kinetic energy so that the effect of intermolecular forces is small
(or zero for an ideal gas), and the typical distance between neighboring molecules is much greater than
the molecular size. A gas has no definite shape or volume, but occupies the entire container in which it
is confined.
