MANUAL MUSCLE TESTING OF DELTOID MUSCLE BY;SYED RUMAN

MMT is used to determine the extent and degree of muscular weakness resulting from diiseases ,injury and disuse. Grade 0: No Movement Grade 1; Flikering of contraction Grade 2; Full ROM with eliminating gravity Grade 3; Full ROM with against gravity Grade 4; Full ROM with against gravity with min resistance Grade 5:Full ROM with against graviity with max resistance DEFINATION AND GRADES OF MMT

GRADE 0,1,2 ; Patients Position : Short sitting with arm at side and elbow slightly flexed . Therapist position : Stand at test side. TEST : Patient attempts to flex shoulder at 90 degree SHOULDER FLEXION[ANTERIOR FIBERS

GRADE 3; Position of Patient : Short sitting, arm at side with elbow slightly flexed and forearm pronated . Therapist position : Stand at test side. Test: Patient flexes shoulder to 90° .

Patients Position : Short sitting with arm at side and elbow slightly flexed ,Forearm pronated . Therapist position : Stand at test side.Hand giving resistance is contoured over the distal humerus just above the elbow.the other hand may stabilize the shoulder joint. TEST : Patient flexes shoulder at 90 degree without rotation . GRADE 4 AND GRADE 5

GRADE 0,1 ; Patients Position : Prone with arms at sides and shoulder internally rotated. Therapist position : Stand at test side.Finger used for palpation are placed on the posterior aspect of the upper arm[posterior deltoid] TEST : Patient attempts to lift arm from table. SHOULDER EXTENSION[POSTERIOR FIBERS ]

Patients Position : Prone with head turned to one side ; test arms internally rotated. Therapist position : Stand at test side. TEST : Patient attempts to lift arm as high as he can. GRADE 2 AND GRADE 3

Patients Position : Prone with arms at sides and shoulder internally rotated. Therapist position : Stand at test side. Hand used for resistance is contoured over the posterior arm ,just above the elbow. TEST : Patient attempts to lift arm from the table ,keeping elbow straight. GRADE 4 AND GRADE 5

GRADE 0 AND GRADE1; Patients Position : Short sitting. Therapist position : Standing behind and to the side of patient. Providing limb support to the elbow. TEST : Patient tries to maintain the arm in abduction. SHOULDER ABDUCTION [MIDDLE FIBERS]

Patients Position : Short sitting with arm at side and slight elbow flexion. Therapist position : Standing behind patient to palpate muscle on test side. TEST : Patient attempts to abduct arm. GRADE 2

Patients Position : Short sitting with arm at side and elbow slightly flexed . Therapist position : Standing behind the patient.Hand giving resistance is contoured over arm just above elbow. TEST : Patient abducts arm to 90 degree. GRADE 3, GRADE4,GRADE 5
