ART talk Tuesday Looking at Modern & Contemporary Art “One of the great challenges in life is knowing enough to think you're right but not enough to know you're wrong” ―  Neil deGrasse Tyson

MODERN A R T Modern art includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s. Abstraction is characteristic of much modern art.

CONTEMPORARY A R T Artists today explore ideas, concepts, questions, and practices that examine the past, describe the present, and imagine the future. In light of such diversity, there is no simple or singular way to define contemporary art.

MODERN A R T Modern art includes artistic work produced dur- ing the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s. The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. Abstraction is characteristic of much modern art.

CONTEMPORARY A R T Often recognized for the absence of a uniform organizing principle, ideology, or label, contemporary art can often seem overwhelming, difficult, or so simple that the viewer might wonder if they are missing something.
