A speech sound which is produced by comparatively open configuration
of vocal tract, with vibration of the vocal cords but without audible
friction, and which as a unit of the sound system of a language that forms
nucleus of a syllable.

2 TYPES OF VOWEL SOUND
MONOPHTONGS
A monophthong is a vowel sound pronounced as a single, unchanging
sound, without any significant change in quality or length. In other
words, it is a single vowel sound that remains constant throughout its
pronunciation.
DIPTHONGS
Dipthongs is a long, complex vowel which starts with the
sound quality of one vowel and ends with the sound quality of
another one.
