NEW CHALLENGES TO HUMAN ADAPTATION AND SOCIAL CHANGE Today's societies face three important challenges- global warming and climate change, migration, and conflicts. These phenomena pose great challenges to human adaption, with many societies worldwide facing their myriad effects and consequences.

GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE Global warming is a term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, which is believed to be permanently changing the Earth's climate. It is now a big issue for the whole environment. It is caused mainly by the greenhouse effect. Climate change refers to changes in weather patterns and growing seasons around the world. It also refers to sea level rise caused by the expansion of warmer seas and melting ice sheets and glaciers. Global warming causes climate change, which poses a serious threat to life on Earth in the forms of widespread flooding and extreme weather.

EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING Rise of Sea Level - Since the earth is heating up, ice caps and glaziers starts to melt. 2. Loss of Habitats - Since ice caps and glaziers starts to melt, species that live in that habitat start to migrate and might lead to extinction because of the loss of habitat that they live in. 3. Extreme Weather - Since the level of the sea rises, high levels of precipitation would occur, the earth would experience extreme rainfall or storms because of large amount of water being evaporated. 4. Ocean Acidification - Reduce the Heat radiation in the environment. - Help lessen the amount of Carbon dioxide.

1. Recycle • Do the 3 R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. • Help by minimizing waste. 2. Using Less Air Conditioning • Do the 3 R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. • Help by minimizing waste. 3. Drive Less • Reduce air pollution by driving less. • Walk and use Bike to lessen the carbon footprint.. STEPS TO PREVENT AND EASE THE PROBLEM OF GLOBAL WARMING

STEPS TO PREVENT AND EASE THE PROBLEM OF GLOBAL WARMING  4. Use the Off Switch • Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need. 5. Plant Tree • Plant more trees to absorb carbon dioxide in exchange of oxygen that we need.

ETHNIC, RELIGIOUS, AND IDEOLOGICAL CONFLICTS According to Mas Weber, arises when one person or party intentionally carries out an action or deed against another play. Two major causes: Greed - economic deprivation which drives people to engage in violent conflict. - instigate or participate in conflict due to greed believe that their victory will ensure them economic gains. Plato echoed this belief when he considered war as a product of men's desires. Grievance - influenced largely by identity issues, such as the desire to gain recognition for one's religion or ethnicity.

THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT The greenhouse effect is the way in which heat is trapped close to Earth's surface by “greenhouse gases.” These heat-trapping gases can be thought of as a blanket wrapped around Earth, keeping the planet toastier than it would be without them.

FACTORS WHICH CONTRIBUTES THE INCREASE OF GREENHOUSE GASES Burning fossil fuels , cutting down forests and farming livestock  are increasingly influencing the climate and the earth's temperature. This adds enormous amounts of greenhouse gases to those naturally occurring in the atmosphere, increasing the greenhouse effect and global warming.

MIGRATION  MIGRATION Is the movement of people from one place to another for the purpose of temporary or permanent residence. Often involves the movement of people across long distances. Emigration (out-migration) - refers to the movement of people out of . their own native country. Immigration - refers to the movement of people into a country that is not their native land. Internal Migration - refers to the movement of people within their own country, and involves transferring from one city or locality to another.

REASONS WHY PEOPLE MIGRATE Poverty Immigrants go to other countries because of poverty. These people migrate for economic purposes. These people thrive to make money. They send these money to their families in their home country. Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW)- Filipino who works outside of the country. 24 Overpopulation These people migrate to other countries because they feel that there are no more space for them to live. Countries with high population growth and with high population density show to have higher chances to migrate to find other places in other countries to live in.
