Session 3

Opening Prayer God of mystery, whose voice whisper our name, Gather us now in your one Spirit and prepare our heart to come to your table. We ask this in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen .

CARITAS MANILA (Congregations Around Richmond Involved to Assure Shelter) is a non-profit organization that serves as the lead social service and development ministry of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. With over 60 years of experience, its core competencies are geared towards total human development and poverty alleviation and advocates creating a Christian community with a strong social conscience.

First known as Catholic Charities, CARITAS MANILA was established by the late Archbishop of Manila Rufino Cardinal Santos on October 1, 1953 as a social welfare program “for uplifting the spirit and soul of the unfortunate members of our community, to assist them in all their needs, and to bring the help of God in their miseries and distress.”

Note Taking Time

You’re time starts now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBm5CDF3pPc

“ The Word of the Prophets” The prophets were called by God to speak His word to the people, interpreting their present situation in the sight of God and telling them what He would do with them. Most of all, the prophets called the people back to the covenant. After the first stage of God’s saving act of liberating His people from slavery in Egypt, a second stage concerns their deliverance proclaimed by the prophets, both before and after the exile, if only they would turn back to the Lord. - CFC 428

A prophet is a messenger sent by God, a person who speaks for God. He or she witnesses to God, calls people to conversion, and may also foretell the future. Prophets often are killed for their message.

Jesus fits this description. He is none other than the Word of God in the flesh. He called the world to turn from sin and return to the Father and was put to death for it. In Scripture, Jesus is presented as a prophet . Crowds identified Him as “Jesus the prophet” (Matthew 21:11). He spoke of Himself as a prophet : “No prophet is accepted in his own native place” (Luke 4:24). He also foretold His passion and resurrection.

Closing Prayer Thank you Lord that we have the time to reflect on your teachings. Help us to bring hope, an important virtue to life, in my home, in my school and in our community. I Hope that I will be able to spend time with you like this more often. Amen. St. Gertrude the Great. Pray for us.
