WHAT IS LANGUAGE? According to the linguists language can only be called language if it has a system of rules (Grammar, Sound system/Phonology and a vocabulary.) 6

Can animals communicate? Animals can produce sounds and gestures, but will not be able to organize the sound to a meaningful system with rules.

LANGUAGE PROCESS; When people use languages, they can understand each other because they belong to same speech community . While growing up, people acquire languages used in the community “ LANGUAGE ACQUISITION ” “LAD” =Language Acquisition Device. Language acquired is also called “ MOTHER TONGUE”/ “NATIVE LANGUAGE” There are other languages that are needed for various reasons this is the “Second Language” Language Change is the result of Language Contact.

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION? Communication is a process of sharing/exchanging information, thoughts, or ideas through verbal and non-verbal communication.

Communication According to Mode

VERBAL NON-VERBAL is using speech or spoken word s to exchange information, emotions, and thoughts. Example; Public Speaking Interview is conveying and exchanging messages without the use of spoken words. Example; Hand gestures Facial Expression

What are the difference between Verbal and Non-Verbal dimensions? SUMMARY VERBAL uses words to communicate while NON-VERBAL do not use words but it uses body language, gestures and facial expressions.

What are the importance of Verbal and Non-Verbal ? SUMMARY It helps to improve good relationship and good communication.

What will happen if the Verbal and Non-Verbal dimensions did not agree with each other? SUMMARY It might cause MISCOMMUNICATION/ MISUNDERSTANDINGS.
