Sermon about Mothers

1. From the 10 Commandments… 1. You shall have no other gods before me. 2. You shall not make for yourself an idol. 3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. 4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

2. 12  “Honor (respect, obey, care for) your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged in the land the  Lord  your God gives you. Exodus 20:12 (AMP)

3. 16  ‘Honor (respect, obey, care for) your father and your mother, as the  Lord  your God has commanded you, so that your days [on the earth] may be prolonged and so that it may go well with you in the land which the  Lord  your God gives you. Deuteronomy 5:16 (AMP)

6. I will honor my mother by obeying her.

7. 1 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.  2  “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise:  3  If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” 4  Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4 (NLT)

8. I will honor my mother by respecting her.

9. 3 Each of you must respect your mother and father. Leviticus 19:3 (NIV)

11. I will honor my mother by listening to her.

12. 1 Intelligent children listen to their parents; foolish children do their own thing. Proverbs 13:1 (MSG)

13. 22  Listen to your father, who gave you life,     and don’t despise your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23:22 (NLT)

14. God gave me my parents for a purpose.

15. 20  Son, do what your father tells you and never forget what your mother taught you.  21  Keep their words with you always, locked in your heart.  22  Their teaching will lead you when you travel, protect you at night, and advise you during the day.  23  Their instructions are a shining light; their correction can teach you how to live. 16. I will honor my mother by appreciating her.

17. 22 When your mother is old, show her your appreciation. Proverbs 23:22b (GNT)

18. 1) I will appreciate their efforts. 2) I will appreciate their sacrifices.

19. 25  So give your father and mother joy!     May she who gave you birth be happy. Proverbs 23:25 (NLT)

20. I will honor my mother by providing for her.

21. 2  Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters. 3  Take care of any widow who has no one else to care for her. 4  But if she has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. This is something that pleases God. 1 Timothy 5:2-4 (NLT)

22. I will honor my mother by taking care of her.

23. 26  So Jesus, seeing His mother, and the disciple whom He loved (esteemed) standing near, said to His mother, “[Dear] woman, look, [here is] your son!”  27  Then He said to the disciple (John),  “Look! [here is] your mother  [protect and provide for her]!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own  home . John 19:26-27

24. 8  If anyone doesn’t take care of his own relatives, especially his immediate family, he has denied the Christian faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1Timothy 5:8 (GW)
