Background of MCTS Ministry of Health and Family Welfare:- The Health and Family Welfare Department has introduced a Mother and Child name based tracking Information management system called Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) in collaboration with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and National Informatics Centre (NIC).
It covers mothers from conception till 42 days after delivery . The infants are covered up to five years of age.
Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS ) The Mother and Child Tracking System was launched in 1 DEC 2009 helps to monitor the health care system to ensure that all mothers and their children have access to a range of services including pregnancy care, medical care during delivery, and immunizations. The system consists of a database of all pregnancies registered at health care facilities and birth since 1 December 2009
Definition 1 . MCT is a name-based tracking system whereby pregnant women and children can be tracked for their ANCs and immunization along with a feedback system for the ANM, ASHA etc., to ensure that all pregnant women receive their ante-natal care check-ups (ANCs) and post-natal care (PNCs); and further children receive their full immunization. 2. An innovative web based, name based, tracking system which enables health workers to ensure timely delivery of full complement of maternal and child health care services to pregnant women (mothers) and children up to 5 years of age
MCT trends • MCTS involves entry of huge volumes of data generated at the grassroots level, which is usually the sub centre. • The data is then compiled at different levels and transmitted to the next higher level. It is very essential to identify the operational aspects of its implementation at each level, especially at the level where data are generated, i.e., at the sub center (SC) and at the first point of data entry, i.e., primary health center (PHC). • More than 4.06 crore pregnant women and 3.3 crore children have been registered in the system since its inception.
Over 99.5% districts, 96% health blocks, 88% health facilities (other than Sub Health Centers (SHCs) and 94% SHCs are reporting data in MCTS. Total 2.3 lakh ANMS are registered in MCTS, of which 2.2 lakh (96.6%) ANM are registered with Phone Number. Total 8.4 lakh ASHAs are registered in MCTS, out of which 6.9 lakh (82.9%) ASHAs are registered with Phone number. - Everyday approximately 7-8 lakh SMSes are being sent to the beneficiaries carrying useful IEC messages related to maternal and child care, schemes like JSY, JSSK and Direct Benefit Transfer.
Objectives To reduce IMR, MMR, TFR Promote and facilitate timely delivery of full services to beneficiaries Improve service delivery coverage Strengthen health care service delivery system Establish robust monitoring system at all levels
Benefits of MCT To the beneficiaries Information about desired services , government schemes. Advance information about the due services Facilitate in timely delivery of services and better interaction with health provider . To the Health Provider ( ANM/ ASHA) Auto generation of work plan SMS based worked plan Micro Planning for Filed visit Readily available services due list Better guidance from senior supervisors
