Brief about mousedeer Triangular head with a small, pointed, black nose and large eyes . Its long legs are as thin as a pencil. The hind legs are visibly longer than the front legs . The body is rounded. The fur on the upper part of its body is grey-buff to orange-buff .

Mousedeer form the Tragulidae family of small even-toed ungulates in the mammalian order Artiodactyla . Other artiodactyl families include the deer, the pigs and the cattle . There are reportedly two species existing in Singapore: the lesser mousedeer ( Tragulus kanchil ) and the greater mousedeer ( Tragulus napu ). They have been recorded in the Central Catchment Area, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Pulau Ubin . The mousedeer is well known from Malay stories as the wily Sang Kancil who always manages to outwit large predators like the crocodile and the tiger . Interesting facts about mousedeer

Physics Mousedeer are : T he smallest ruminants G rowing to a maximum height of 12 inc. (30 cm) at the shoulder. The chevrotain lacks horns or antlers. There are two well-developed toes on the feet . The mousedeer is a shy animal which leads a solitary life except during the breeding season .

Mousedeers are solitary and nocturnal . They are only active in night but in the day , they rest . Mousedeer also very intelligent because they are in the bottom of the food chain .

Chemistry The upper canines of the male mousedeer are  elongated  and  protrude from the mouth as small tusks.

Biology After a gestation period  of 120 days, one or two young are born. Diet: Mousedeer are frugivorous . They feed on fallen fruits, shoots, young leaves and fungi foraged from the ground and low vegetation.
