C BY AKINSANMI, OMOTAYO OLUWAFUNKE {CVE/20/7856} M.ENG PROPOSAL SEMINAR SUBMITTED TO CIVIL AND ENVIROMENTAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AKURE, ONDO STATE, NIGERIA IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF MASTER OF ENGINEERING (M.ENG) IN CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING (WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING OPTION) SUPERVISOR: DR. (MRS ) O. M. OJO SEPTEMBER, 2023 ASSESSMENT OF SAWDUST ACTIVARED CARBON IN THE TREATMENT OF DOMESTIC WASTEWATER

INTRODUCTION

THE SAW DUST DISPOSAL PROBLEM

AIM AND OBJECTIVES The specific objectives are to: determine the physiochemical characteristics of domestic waste water; characterize the produced SAC and assessment of potassium carbonate (𝐾2𝐶𝑂3) as an activating agent; evaluate the efficiency of SAC in the treatment of domestic waste water; and determine the effects of operating conditions on the adsorption capabilities of SAC The research is aimed at evaluating the feasibility of using sawdust activated carbon (SAC) in the treatment of domestic waste water

JUSTIFICATION OF STUDY . This research work would solve this problem by assessing the use of sawdust activated carbon (SAC) in the treatment of domestic waste water

SCOPE OF WORK

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE This research is expected to provide : provide a template through which saw dust could be utilized in the treatment of wastewater provide an environmental friendly way of reusing sawdust and treatment of wastewater effluents

LITERATURE REVIEW Awoyale et al (2013) experimented on the efficiency of activated carbon from local waste bamboo gotten from construction sites for adsorption and treatment of wastewater from a typical refinery Marshahida et al (2016) studied the use of soybean hulls, peanut shells, almond hulls and cotton seeds for enhanced heavy metal adsorption in wastewater Okorigwe et al (2013) experimented on the efficiency of activated carbon from palm kernel shells (PKS) on purification of contaminated rain and flowing water bodies
