1. MUAC TAPE An Overview

2. MUAC TAPE MUAC (mid upper arm circumference) tapes are predominately used to measure the upper arm circumference of children but also that of pregnant women, helping identify malnutrition. MUAC is used for the assessment of nutritional status. It is a good predictor of mortality and in many studies, MUAC predicted mortality in children better than any other anthropometric indicator.

5. How to measure with MUAC

6. Ibis Medical Bend the left arm in 90 degree angle to find the mid of the arm. STEP - 1

7. Ibis Medical Keep the head of the MUAC tape on top and align the marker (0 Cm) inline with top most part of hand as shown in image. STEP - 2

8. Ibis Medical Find the center point of the arm and mark it using a pen. STEP - 3

9. Ibis Medical Keep the patient's arm hanging straight down to start measuring. Place the head of the MUAC tape towards right hand direction as shown in the image. STEP - 4

10. Ibis Medical Wrap the MUAC tape's tail around the arm above the marked mid point of arm . Insert the tail of the MUAC tape through the slit in the head of the MUAC tape as shown in the image. STEP - 5

11. Ibis Medical Ensure the tape is too tight or loose , tape should be in normal tight. Take the reading through the measurement area which is inline with the markers (0 cm). STEP - 6
