INTRODUCTION This committee known as the “Health Survey and Planning Committee”. headed by Dr. Arcot Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar , the then vice chancellor of Madras University. He was appointed to assess the performance in health sector since the submission of Bhore Committee report. The committee presented the final recommeded report in 1965.

NEED FOR THIS COMMITTEE It was found in the Bhore Committee 1946 that the conditions in PHCs was unsatisfactory and suggested that the PHC, already established should be strengthened before new ones are opened. N eed for strengthening the Sub-divisional and district hospitals so that they may effectively function as referral centres .
Main Recommendations of the Mudaliar Committee Strengthening of sub divisional and district hospitals was also advised. It was emphasised that a PHC should not be made to cater to more than 40,000 population. T he curative, preventive and promotive services should be all provided at the PHC. I mprove the quality of health care provided by the PHC. The Mudaliar Committee also recommended that an All India Health service should be created to replace the erstwhile Indian Medical service.
CONTI… Create a regional administrative level between t he headquarters at state level and at t he district level. The recommendations that are made in Bhore Committee are present in as well in this committee but with slight modifications as stated above.
SUMMARY AND KEY POINTS Formed in 1964 but final report presented in 1965. Also known as the Health Survey and Planning Committee founded by Dr. A.L. Mudaliar . Main objective to form this committee is to improvise the Bhore Committee 1946 as it was not able to meet the demands of the community. The main key point in this committee was not cater more than 40,000 population in 1 PHC and All India Health Sevices should be created.
