Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence

"Expertise in using one's whole body to express ideas and feelings (e.g., as an actor, a mime, an athlete, or a dancer) and facility in using one's hands to produce or transform things (e.g., as a craftsperson, sculptor, mechanic, or surgeon). This intelligence includes specific physical skills such as coordination, balance, dexterity, strength, flexibility, and speed, as well as proprioceptive (the sense of how your own limbs are oriented in space), tactile (affecting the sense of touch), and haptic (based on the sense of touch) capacities ."

They learn and remember by " doing " Take the initiative to touch and feel than just look Well-coordinated motor skills Likes figuring out how things work Have a lot of physical energy and enjoy the outdoors Likes to work and create with hands Can't sit still for too long Like to be active and enjoys sports and exhilarating experiences Has a lot of physical energy Good at dancing, sports and athletics Are agile, dexterous, and have quick well-coordinated body movement Who is this Student?

Discomfort Zone Movement of others in classroom Bothered bothers sitting too close , and sitting too long Needs extra time to settle down after physical activity Long lectures where student must “sit and get” Dead time and quiet reading time

Support this intelligence in the classroom by: Providing hands-on learning centers Incorporating creative drama into your instruction Including interactive games in reviewing and remediating content Offering experiences in movement to rhythm and music Engaging students in hands-on science experiments Utilizing manipulatives in math instruction Allowing opportunities for building and taking apart Encouraging students to construct physical representations of concepts Keeping students physically moving throughout the school day

Bodily Kinesthetic Learners can opt for careers which require them to use their body and the energy stored in it. A stationary job is not meant for these people. They are good as: Actor / Actress Artistic painter Athlete Builder Carpenter Choreographer Crafts person Dance Factory worker Farmer Firefighter Forest ranger Gardener Jeweler Mechanic Mime Paramedic Park Ranger Performer Physical Education Instructor Physical Therapist Recreational worker Sculptor Surgeon
