Multiplication of Binomials by FOIL method

Concept 8 6 x 48

Concept 4a 3b x 12ab

Concept 2a ( + a b ) + 3b ( ) 3b 2 ab 6ab 2a 2

Concept 3b 2 ab 6ab 2a 2 + + + =2a 2 +7ab+3b 2 =

uter Term 3b 2 6ab ab 2a 2 + + + =2a 2 +7ab+3b 2 = 2a =( + a b ) + 3b ( ) irst Term F O nner Term I ast Term L M ethod

FOIL Method It is a mnemonic use for the standard method in multiplying two binomial FOIL stands for First, Outer, Inner, and Last

FOIL Method First means multiply the terms which occur first in each binomial. Then Outer means multiply the outermost terms in the product . Inner means multiply the innermost two terms. Last means multiply the terms which occur last in each binomial. Then  simplify the products and combine any like terms which may occur.

Examples =( 3x+2)(4x+1) =12x 2 + 3x + 2 +8x Find the product of (3x+2)(4x+1) =12x 2 +11x+2

Examples =( x+4)( 5 x- 2) =5x 2 - 2x - 8 +20x Find the product of (x+4)(5x+2) =5x 2 +18x-8

Examples =(6 a +2)(2a+7) =12a 2 +42a + 14 +4a Find the product of (3x+2)(4x+1) =12x a +46a+14

Examples =( x+6)( 2 x-2) =2x 2 - 2x -12 +12x Find the product of (3x+2)(4x+1) =2x 2 +10x-12
