DEFINITION PROCESS OF DESSICATION OF BODY IN DRY WARM CONDITION WITH A DRAUGHT OF AIR

INTRODUCTION Optimum condition : high environmental temp , low humidity, good ventilation Once the changes are complete, the body will remain in that condition indefinitely No growth of microorganism

HOW DOES IT OCCURS ? The natural process occur in extremely dry environment that allows fast dehydration of tissues, simultaneously slowing down, or inhibit decomposition of bacteria and other microorganism.

HOW DOES IT LOOKS ? Skin is dark and tightly adherent to skeletal frame Brownish discoloration Parchment – like appearance No foul smelling

WHEN IT CAN OCCUR ? The time required for complete mummification can’t be precisely stated but it takes several weeks to months , depending on the size of the body and atmospheric conditions USUALLY 3-6 MONTHS

MEDICO-LEGAL IMPORTANCE Identification - general facial features Time estimation Cause of Death Place of death Can detect abnormal pathology inside deep organs

MUMMIFICATION MAY OCCUR NATURALLY OR MAY BE ACHIEVED THROUGH ARTIFICIAL METHODS EGYPTIAN CULTURE
