Four Classification of Instrumen t
1. Idiophone - an instrument the whole of which vibrates to produce a sound when struck, shaken, or scraped.
2. Membranophone – it is any musical instrument which produces sound primarily by way of a vibrating stretched membrane.
3.Aerophone - is any musical instrument that produces sound primarily by causing a body of air to vibrate.
4.Chordophone - is a musical instrument that makes sound by way of a vibrating string, or strings stretched between two points.
MUSIC OF INDONESIA
Indonesia is an archipelago in Southeast Asia comprising approximately 17, 500 islands. With over 238 million, Indonesia is the fourth most populous country and the fourth biggest nation of the world.
Historical and religious epics are sung, and they are often accompanied by a stringed instrument or a flute. Indonesian Music Another common element is the belief that music is a means of communicating with unseen powers.
SLENDRO - is known as the “male” tone system. It consists of five tones which has almost similar intervals. It is also known as pentatonic scale. Two Basic Kinds of Indonesian Music Scale PELOG -is considered the “female” tonal system. it consists of five tones and three tones, however, the sound is different from that of slendro.
GAMEL=HAMMER
GAMELAN The gamelan is the traditional orchestra of Indonesia. It is an important part of the culture and tradition of this country.
GAMELAN The gamelan is an instrumental group composed of percussion instruments made of bamboo, bronze, and wood. It performs often in feasts, puppetry, rituals, and other celebrations including ceremonies.
JAVANESE - is more traditional in nature and appropriate in palaces and temples GAMELAN BALINESE -is more contemporary showcasing the influence of western traditions creating a gamelan fusion.
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS in GAMELAN
1.SARONS a xylophones with five to nine keys each . The keys are hit with wooden mallet called TABUH.
2. GAMBANG Is a xylophone with twenty-one keys made from wood. Sometimes, this instrument is combined with sarons .
3.GONGS Is considered the most important instrument of the ensemble. These are instruments that support the fixed melody.
4.KENDANG Is the drum in the Gamelan and the main source of rhythm and tempo. The drum sits on its side on a stand, so players have access to both sides of the drum to play. It has a flat, thick, warm sound.
5.GENDERS These instruments are metallophones with keys made of bronze. These are played using a pair of padded mallets
6. BONANGS Just like the genders and sarons , these kettle-like instruments are arranged according to their pitch from highest to lowest.
REBAB - is a bowed instruments. This resembles a violin but with only two strings and hearted-shaped resonator. ADDITIONAL INSTRUMENTS in GAMELAN SULING -is an end blown-flute. It is sometimes included in the gamelan esemble to play ornamentation for the main theme.

THAILAND is the heart of Mainland Southeast Asia and known as the Kingdom of Thailand Siam -is the old name of Thailand. -It is known for being the sole nation in Southeast Asia that has never been ruled by a Western power.
Traditional Thai musical instruments are played by the various ethnolinguistic groups of Thailand. Thailand Traditional Music The various musical instruments of Thailand can be grouped according to how each instruments is played.

INSTRUMENTAL ESEMBLE of THAILAND
1. Piphat It is an orchestra that combines some of the percussion and wind instruments of the Piphat with an expanded string section.. This ensemble has different types, but the highly ornate one is traditionally associated with funerals and cremation ceremonies.
2. Khrueang Sai Winds and percussion instrument of the piphat ensemble are combine with string instrument. This group plays in indoor performances and accompanies stick-puppet theater presentations.
3. Mahori This ensemble is traditionally played by women in the courts of Central Thailand and Cambodia.
